I have been eating periodically at this and the Teaneck location for years. Lately I have been underwhelmed by the food here. Everything on the mock meat menu tasts very similar to me and I don't understand why a vegan menu has to try to imitate meat. The food is over sauced and flavored and overwhemingly sweet. My wife and I decided to try the Montclair Veggie Heaven one last time and were disappointed with the only item that we like (drum sticks), even these tasted odd. Basically, the only thing that I like from there is the vegan "cheesecake," although one slice can leave my tongue feeling "over-sugared." Also, I was under the impression that everything on the menu was vegan, but this site classifies it as vegetarian.
This place is vegan friendly but there are not many options. The vegetarian paninis can be ordered without cheese and the smoothies can be ordered without cow milk. According to the owner, some soups are vegan. I ate the roasted vegetable and the mu-shu panini. They were very delicious! The taste of the cabbage in the mu-shu panini was very unique in a very good way. However, the portion was just too small and overpriced. One panini is like an appetizer and meat or no meat the price is the same. The smoothies were good, but again, same price with or without yogurt and the yogurt cannot be replaced with almond or soy milk. They had one blueberry, flax seed, almond milk smoothie on the menu but I did not try it.
As with all vegan restaurants that I have been to, the menu is a bit pricey. I had the rice dish with peanut sauce and mashed potatoes. Also the salmon pear and avocado wrap, the tropical smoothie, the chocolate banana smoothie, and the marble cheese cake. Everything was delicious. It's a safe place to eat. I ate with the confidence of knowing that there are no animal products in this cafe. The mash potatoes might be slightly undersalted for some. I highly recommend this place. And like the other reviewer said, the staff is super friendly.
