vegan-friendly bar and restaurant

Restaurant, Bar

Stonefly Brewing Company is a restaurant and bar in the space that Onopa Brewing Company used to occupy. They have an impressive selection of vegan items, most of which are clearly marked on the menu.

Vegan items include: beer battered onion rings, chickpea-olive tapanede, tofu wings, Riverwest Grille stirfry with tofu, and the sloppy jofu sandwich. There is also a large burger section and you can get a veggie (homemade but has eggs), or a Gardenburger vegan patty with any of them. Most of the burgers can be made vegan w/out the cheese (like the Redhot Blue Burger that has hot sauce and sauteed mushrooms), or the Bodhi Burger, with tomatillo-chipotle salsa, avocado, and romaine.

There are a few items on the menu that are not marked as being able to be made vegan, like the soft hot pretzel, but it can be made vegan if you omit the beer cheese and just get the Stonefly Stout mustard. There are also a lot of vegetarian pizza options, but there is cheese in the sauce, so omitting cheese from the pizza won't make it vegan.

For sides, the beer-battered fries are vegan, but the celery root mashed potatoes are NOT.

good tofu wings, but nothing exceptional on the menu. Some interesting items but they weren't good enough I'd go back. You get better food and a wider selection for vegans at palomino's.

This place is outstanding. They actually have vegan onion rings, which totally rocks my socks. The onion rings aren't just any old onion rings, they have this thick, rich, beer batter that is just amazing. I also tried the chickpea tapanade, which was good, but unusually healthy, given the other menu choices.

I've tried both the Bodhi burger (w/ the vegan patty), which had chipotlye-tomatillo salsa, avocado and Romaine lettuce--which was delicious, and the sloppy jofu, which was so-so. The latter had a good sauce, but I wasn't expecting huge chunks of tofu in a sloppy joe, so it was a bit disappointing. The beer-battered fries that the burgers come with were also really good, but I hope to try the homemade applesauce next time. They were out of tofu wingers, but I hear they are fantastic.

I hate that they allow smoking, but fortunately, it wasn't too bad on a cold Sunday night. Our waitress was also great, and happened to be vegan, so she told us all her favorite dishes.
