veg-friendly Ethiopian restaurant
Awash is an Ethiopian restaurant and bar that features several vegetarian appetizers and a separate vegetarian entree section of the menu. Entrees include:
-Key Sir Alicha - red beets, carrots and potatoes
-String Beans & Carrots cooked and seasoned in spicy garlic sauce
-Gomen - collard green coked with onions, garlic and green peppers
-Yatakilt Alicha - cabbage, carrot, potatoes with peppers onions and garlic
-Yemisir Kik Wat - split red lentils cooked in berbere sauce -Shiro - mildly spiced chick peas, cooked with onions and tomatoes
-Yater Kikalicha - split peas cooked with onions, peppers & herbs
These entrees are about $9 each or you could get a combo platter that features most of them, along with salad, for $11. As is typical for Ethiopian restaurants, all meals are served with traditional Ethiopian flatbread, injera, which is a spongy, sourdough-style flatbread that is used to scoop up the food. Their injera is made with teff, as is always the case, but also contains wheat flour, so it is not gluten-free.
