Gigantic Vietnamese Restaurant

Mai Village has been around for many years, but recently moved next door and spent a great deal to create an authentic vietnamese atmostphere. They have about 10 vegetarian dishes, with both tofu and mock duck. Vegans should be aware that their curry contains egg.

I have visited Mai Village several times. Unfortunately, while they do have vegetarian and vegan options, their food is often overly greasy, heavily-laden with sticky, salty sauce, and otherwise unappetizing. It's a shame - the restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous and would be wonderful to dine in, were the food better. To add insult to injury, the food is expensive, too.

If you're looking for ambiance, search no further. If you're looking for excellent cuisine, I suggest Saigon (just down the street) or Ngon (which has vegan wine and an all-Minnesota beer list.)

Poor quality control? The hot and spicy mock duck with lemongrass had hair in it. This dish and others seem to be on the oily/greasy side as well. We felt the $2 per person for a small teapot was over-priced. I thought I detected fish sauce in my dish as well.

The decor is certainly nice here, and they are capable of serving large numbers of people, but I've found that this place is over-rated by the professional/paid reviewers.
