A small vegan friendly cafe serving Mexican and American food

Restaurant, Caterer

The Cafe of the Americas is a socially conscious cafe which serves fair trade coffee, a variety of baked goods (some vegan), soups, sandwiches, and Mexican specialities like chili and tamales.

It's part of the Resource Center for the Americas, an activist organization focused on human rights and economic justice in the Americas, which include the bookstore next to the cafe.

I felt good spending my money here. I would stop in there again mostly because I feel it's important to support socially responsible businesses, and independent places, etc. They have vegan options and they were clearly labeled, so that's nice. The sandwich I had was a garlic white bean pate, but it was very bland. The banana bread was pretty good, and I think I had a cookie, too. The cookie was okay, but a little dry. It would be a good place to read, write, or study.

I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but if you're in the neighborhood, it's a nice place to stop for a meal or a snack. The tamale I had was tasty, as was the banana bread, though it could have been moister. The prices are quite reasonable, and the space is pleasant.
