Vegan Bar

Restaurant, Bar

Bye and Bye is a vegan bar on Alberta. Reasonable prices for both food and drinks, comfortable atmosphere, no smoking, and lots of bike parking. Artwork on the walls and also a jukebox. The place is large, but it's broken up into a few different rooms so it still feels cozy. They also have a patio.

I had high hopes for this place, walking through the smokers row to get into the place was a huge turnoff... the staff was too cool to be bothered with questions and more concerned with claiming the place to be an anomaly. The Meatball sandwich was fair. Service was poor, atmosphere pleasant. I doubt I will eat here again.

I had high hopes for the famous vegan bar of Portland (it used to be the only one in the US, but Seattle has got one now too). Ultimately, it's a cool joint, but not quite the paradise I imagined it to be.

To start, the vibe here is cool. It's casual, the clientele and staff are cool, there's lots of space to move around, and it's not grungy or grimy at all.

The beer selection is good. The food was what I was most interested in, though. I had their "meatball marinara sub" which was french bread stuffed with homemade vegan sausage and a herb-filled tomato sauce.

It was tasty. But not the best I've ever had (Pizza Luce in the Twin Cities makes a better vegan meatball sub).

The menu didn't have much else that stood out to me. The options were pretty limited, actually. Given that this is a bar that serves food, as opposed to a restaurant that serves alcohol, I guess it's to be expected.

Bye and Bye is a decent, solid spot. Now I just need to try the vegan bar in Seattle.
