Jerusalem Restaurant

Champaign-Urbana, Illinois

rating star

An abundance of clearly vegan choices. The menu lists most ingredients, probably for the benefit of clueless undergraduates accustomed to frozen pizza, but it makes item selection very easy (eg, today I wanted the lentil soup, and could see that it was made with a water base rather than a milk or cream product). The owner does everything anyway, so you could just ask him at the register if it's unclear. I would give it a higher rating, but the pita is packaged...

Most people get the veggie lunch special, which comes with a variety of foods, but I like the falafel sandwiches. Very few undergrads make their way here (it seems particularly popular with faculty and local middle easterners), which is also a bonus for me if I want to quietly work while listening to world news.
