Kabab Palace is under new ownership, and now they not only offer Afghan food, but also a variety of Indian dishes. I went there this afternoon for lunch, and from the street the building looked closed, but inside it was teeming with food. Kabab Palace is now open daily for lunch, and the buffet had a good selection of vegetarian foods, but also had its namesake kababs. The vegetarian dishes were mostly on the Indian side, but they also had Afghan bread (in addition to fresh naan). They had the buffet staples of salad, lentil soup, rice, malai kofta, paneer butter masala, daal, spinach, rice pudding & jalebi, alongside a delicious sweet pumpkin dish and their meat entrees such as kababs, chicken shawarma and goat meat. The food was not very spicy to me, and I wish they had some variety of chutneys to go along with the dishes (there was a yogurt sauce, but nothing with a zing). The restaurant was very quiet, and the wait staff was attentive. All in all, it was one of the better buffets in the Ahwatukee/South Tempe area, and that is also reflected in the price ($11.95 buffet). I wish I had picked up one of their menus to see the dinner selection, but I guess I'll have to try it again later.
