Inexpensive Hong Kong style food in Chinatown

Ken Kee has the feel of a small diner, and several other on-line reviews describe it as a Hong Kong style diner. It's usually very busy at most times of the day. The food is inexpensive.

The menu is definitely meat-centered, but they do offer a couple of veg-friendly items. That said, ALWAYS ask about the sauces. Many veg dishes actually contain oyster sauce, which they will leave out on request.

This place is a nice stop if you don't mind the crazy busy atmosphere. The food is tasty and cheap (two of us ate for $16), but it is sort of on the greasy side. They have a couple of veg friendly selections, but you cannot be a meek vegetarian/vegan here: you must ask and request that they leave out any animal-containing sauces (oyster and sauce are the main culprits). All that said, I would go back for the braised bean curd w/ king mushrooms and the Japanese tofu with mushrooms.
