When you see the sign "Vegetable cafe" on the street side wall of the historic Minka-style building on Omachi-dori , you've found the garden entrance to this ground floor cafe .

Sorafune serves 3 vegan lunch sets, coffee, tea & desserts , including raw chocolate cake, scones and cake.My tasty lunch set had oyster mushroom croquettes , miso soup, brown rice, two kinds of pickles , salad and kanten aspic. I had a slice of pumpkin cake, served with tofu cream, for dessert and bought rice -flour scones to take away. Portions are moderate sized, and service is quick and friendly. There is an English menu. Our table looked out on a quiet garden--nice atmosphere . I recommend it for a relaxing and nourishing meal.

Near main Japan Rail station

Location : on Omachi-dori, 10 minute walk from Kamakura main station. Go south past the Main Post Office, Lawson, the railroad overpass, and Kyoonji temple. Cross a small bridge over a river, pass Swany textile shop, and a Hawaii theme restaurant. The cafe is across the street from a motorbike shop Kamakura Scoot. It's in a building with several other businesses , but "Vegetable cafe" is posted at the entrance . Walk through the alley into the recessed entryway. Google maps would help--we asked at the city Tourist Information counter and followed their map. Vege-map Kamakura, available at the Info counter, is a bit out of date, and this cafe isn't on it.
