Vegan lunch in center of Kyoto

Shojin Cafe Waka is open for lunch, serving generous vegan set meals, coffee, tea and cake, though the cake is not vegan. They also sell vegan bento lunches if reserved in advance. The cafe is in a tranquil setting, next to Daiznen-in temple and just one block from the big Bukko-ji temple complex, and houses an art gallery. They have both indoor and outdoor seating.

Generous portions , varied tastes in vegan lunch set. The cafe is only open Wed to Sat for lunch and coffee/tea/ desserts, but the cooking is exquisite and the atmosphere is quiet & welcoming. The lunch set includes miso soup, brown rice& barley, pickled veg, tofu , veg tempura or other main dish. I've had the organic coffee with my lunch set , which was excellent, and other guests have praised the cakes for sale . The cuisine is Japanese home cooking , the portions are big for Japan, and I've been very impressed by the variety in this intimate setting. It's really the best lunch place for vegans that I've found in Kyoto , and not expensive . Make the effort to find it, next to Bukkoji temple .

Walk to the large Bukkoji temple, in front of it, on Takatsuji-dori you will see two pizza shops: Goichi pizza and Pizza Hut. The small block where the cafe is located begins at the intersection with Pizza Hut. The cafe has a sign and a chalkboard outside "vegetarian food."
