Vegan Cafe in downtown Tempe on Mill Avenue

Restaurant, Coffee/Tea/Juice, Grocery/Bakery/Deli, Caterer

NOTE: This restaurant is closed for Summer Break from June 22-July 15, 2013.

One word describes Desert Roots Kitchen: smorgasbord. There's is no other way to describe all that is vegetarian.

There's bread, and rice, and beans, and guacamole, and hummus, and vegetables, and veg tamales, pasta salads, soups, mixed greens, veg chili, and pretty much everything you'd want to find in a (non-raw) vegetarian deli is right here; ready for purchase and consumption by hungry, eager customers.

Desert Roots Kitchen has tantalizing deli items, and there's a rotating menu of veg choices available each day they're open - to your vegetarian heart's content! They use as many local ingredients as possible, and have an ever changing daily menu and we cater to all allergens such as gluten free, soy free, nut free, dairy free, etc.

Covered outdoor seating only, in the courtyard; amidst all the trees and water fountains. A great place for a quiet, romantic lunch.

Closed weekends.

I frequent Desert Roots on a regular basis. I have yet to have anything I didn't like and many many things that I love. Their food is fantastic and consistent. Service is extremely friendly and always helpful.

Finally, some fresh, tasty variety on Mill Avenue in downtown Tempe! They have great vegan brownies, cookies, and bars. The workers are so friendly, will be excited to hear your are vegan or vegetarian, and are happy to help you with any allergies or food preferences. I have probably been here 50 times and have loved everything I tried. The menu offers a new variety daily, but I have seen items like channa masala, smoothies, wraps, multiple flavors of hummus, colorful fruit salad, quinoa salad, pasta salad, soup, dolmas, spring rolls, and so much more.

If you find yourself in Tempe on a weekday, definitely check it out and sample something.
