St Mary-le-Bow church
London EC2V 6AU
Underground lunch place in the city
Formerly vegetarian restaurant in the heart of the city, they have a separate coffee/tea bar and take great pride in their coffee. They are no longer fully vegetarian, however.
Residing in the crypt of an old church (it was rebuilt after the great fire of London in 1666) the atmosphere is not as creepy as it could be. The food is really well presented and generally really good.
They feature a hot main dish each day, some soups, desserts, and a number of large filling salads. Free jugs of water are available on the tables.
The prices are reduced for take away orders and if you dine-in at off-peak hours (which are defined as between 12:00 and 13:30). They also serve breakfast until 11:30 each day.

Between Mansion House and Bank stations, the church is on Cheapside but you need to go into the church and down the stairs to find this place.
