veg-friendly fusion restaurant

Restaurant, Bar

Trocadero, formerly a European bistro, recently revamped its menu to include more Latin, Asian, and Mediterranean food, and in doing, also added several new vegetarian and vegan items to the menu. The menu only includes one symbol for vegetarian or vegan items so check with your server to make sure your dish is vegan.

Veg items include drunken noodles (spicy Thai-style noodles with tofu and veggies), a black bean burger, various salads, and a few appetizers (like hummus). While Trocadero offers a popular brunch (which is very egg-filled, as most brunches are), the only vegan options are a tofu scramble and a fruit cup.

In addition to ample indoor seating, Trocadero is famous for their indoor, heated patio, and also offers outdoor seating.

My brother-in-law is a cook here at Trocadero so I've been getting on him forever to try to get more vegan food on the menu. Apparently a lot of people started asking for vegan items so I'm really glad that the management decided to include vegan food in their new menu. The decor of this place is really nice and their indoor patio is fabulous.

Off the new menu, the only main dish I've had is the drunken noodles, which I thought was really good. The spice level was good and there was a lot of flavor, but I would have liked the tofu to be a little bit firmer. I've had their new hummus (roasted red pepper, I think) as an appetizer, and have had their hummus veggie wrap off their old menu, but I'm not sure if it's still offered. The hummus veggie wrap I've had there before was good but nothing to brag about (there's only so much you can do with just hummus and veggies), but it's a nice light meal.

I'm super glad to see that there is tofu scramble on their brunch menu, but would LOVE to see something more interesting for vegans, as tofu scramble is pretty much the go-to vegan dish in most restaurants. It would be great to see some vegan pancakes, veggie sausage, or even some of their other menu items topped w/ tofu scramble instead of scrambled eggs.

Also, I was a little put off by the disclaimer next to the veggie symbol on the menu. It says something like "depending on your version of veggie, some items can be made vegetarian or vegan..." What does this mean? Either something is vegetarian or it isn't. Either it's vegan or it isn't. Every time I've heard "your version of vegetarian", it's come from someone inaccurately including fish as part of the vegetarian diet, which it is NOT. I'm hoping that Trocadero doesn't believe this to be the case and hope all items are purely vegetarian and vegan, as marked.
