This restaurant offers one menu item that is vegan. It's the only place in town that I feel I can go to and sit down and have a meal. One waitress in particular is very helpful. When I told her I was vegan she immediately asked if I eat honey and when I said I don't she knew exactly what on the menu I could have. The last time I was there one of the two daily specials could be made vegan. The food is delicious and the staff seemed very helpful.

For a vegan Hackberry's is just ok.

They do offer a few vegan options which makes them exceptional in La Crosse.

But in the bigger picture they do not operate with vegans in mind at all:

Their "special menu events" never include vegan options and few vegetarian while offering lots of meaty dishes.

Their brunch/breakfast menu has no vegan options other than seitan, potatoes and toast. When I asked the waitress what vegan options they had for breakfast she said none and told me to order from the lunch menu.

Their desserts never have a vegan option.

There is only one ready made vegan dessert in the co-op below the restaurant....it is a muffin made with banana instead of eggs. (Though they will prepare vegan desserts at the co-op if you put in an order a day or more ahead of time.)

Also, for vegetarians and others, do not order the yogurt and granola if you are hungry, the portion offered with the price is enough to make you cry, esp if you are really hungry.

It is a nice place with good wild rice salad, but not great for Vegans.

This restaurant has so much potential. I wish they would be more like Monty's Blue Plate Diner in Madison.
