Trend-setting Chinese Fine Dining in a casual setting

P.F. Chang's is one of those trend-setting hot spots that seem to have a presence in every locale that offers the most and best of everything. (See more pictures below.)

Appetizers for vegetarians include delightful vegetable dumplings (filled with shredded vegetables and pan-fried or steamed); and Chang's Vegetarian Lettuce Wraps (wok-seared tofu, red onions, water chestnuts with mint and lime), which are a meal in and of themselves; Shanghai Cucumbers (sliced cold cucumbers sprinkled with soy and sesame), and Spring rolls (veggies in a deep-fried roll).

For Entrees, there's the magnificent Vegetable Chow Fun (soft wide rice noodles and slivered vegetables in spicy vegetarian sauce); Sichuan Style Long Beans or Asparagus (quickly cooked with Sichuan preserved vegetables) Spinach Stir-fried with garlic; Buddha's Feast (veggies steamed or Stir-Fried); Coconut-curry Vegetables (stir-fried mixed vegetables, crispy silken tofu and peanuts in a vegetarian coconut-curry sauce) Stir-fried Spicy Eggplant (tossed with scallions and a fiery sauce); Ma Po Tofu (Sichuan's famous dish of crispy silken tofu, in a spicy vegetarian sauce with steamed broccoli) and Garlic Snap Peas. All meals are served with brown or white rice, and are spiced to order.

This is good food in a place that you can take your non-veg friends to and they'll love you for it.

I've been told that every vegetarian item on the menu is vegan and I love all of them! Ma Po Tofu (though this Tempe location doesn't cook the tofu as well as other locations somehow), coconut curry vegetables, vegetarian lettuce wraps, and so much more. I recommend the side of green beans - surprisingly crunchy and seasoned well.

I just ate at the Mesa restaurant, but have eaten at the Mill Ave, Tempe one before. They only had one (ONE) really vegan item, and it had to be steamed because we were told all the sauces have oyster sauce in them and are pre-mixed. On top of that I needed wheat-free, so I could not even have tofu (the 5-spice tofu has soy sauce in it). They claimed even their plain tofu has wheat in it. The food was terrible (over-cooked, bland, and the broccoli was maybe going bad). Given all the vegan-friendly restaurants in our area, SKIP THIS ONE!
