As an abolitionist vegan, I see the use of animals as the main problem. I reject ideas promoted by welfare groups like Mercy For Animals, that treating someone a little better, that we breed into existence, use against their will, and kill for frivolous reasons of tradition, pleasure, or convenience - or that simply reducing the amount of participation in such a system - is any kind of step toward veganism. In an imperfect world, some compromise may be unavoidable, but striving toward the end of animal use means going vegan as much as possible, and I think that should be a clear message at all times.
