this place is incredibly cute. i really enjoyed what i had (burrito) and the desserts were delicious! the service was kind of slow, but with two cooks in the kitchen and many mouths to feed, it really wasn't as issue to us. i would recommend this place to anyone wanting fresh food in a rustic atomosphere. very tasty!
this was great. we got the 6 course meal deal and had a smoked tofu salad, french onion soup, a "bigger mac" (AWESOME), chicken fried tofu and mock duck tacos as out main dishes. dessert was the carrot cake twinkie. it was a very good but kind of pricey. our dinner with a glass of wine and tip (riesling was amazing! i definitely recommend!) was almost $100. it was great food though-sensible portions, not huge.
this was a very good place to eat! i really enjoyed it. my boyfriend got the carnita tacos, which were ok. i had some carnita wrap with ranch-like dressing in it. it's a great little place. no dessert, but they do offer mexi-cokes (cokes from mexico)! they're made with real sugar, come in a glass bottle and are gigantic. overall, very nice people but they didn't serve us too well-we had to ask for the ketchup and hot sauce instead of them offering it to us. it could have been the fact that we came in at opening to though! :) overall, good food, okay service.
the food here was really good. i had a caesar salad wrap and it was delicious! my boyfriend had a burger with mashed potatoes. everything was really tasty and it was a cute atmosphere.
red avocado was wonderful! very good food, however, the portion sizes were very small. i had the sailor's platter which gave a good sample of what the restaurant had to offer. the food was incerdubly tasty and the syrup on my french toast was savory and delicious. the crepe i had was also very good.
my boyfriend had the mushroom crepe which was very tasty and also incredibly good! great food, small portions, a gem for those that are vegan in iowa!
i am happy to report that this eatery does offer vegan options! the kung pao tofu and kung pao mock duck are both vegan. i inquired today and everything in the dish is reportedly "strict vegetarian".
yay! it's very good and decently priced.
i think i may need to take a further look as to whether or not the ingredients in the dish i had (kung pao mock duck) was vegan or if any of their vegetarian dishes are vegan. i will provide an update once this is found out. i enjoyed what i had but was hesitant to eat there again seeing as i did not know if they had msg or fish in their sauces.
this place is ok. the food was good but expensive and you don't get a lot for what you pay for. the atmosphere was nice, but they didn't have many vegan options and i wouldn't really go out of my way to go here, though it's a really cute place! slow service as well, unfortunately.
i really love this place. i have been there multiple times and their kung pao is one of the best dishes. i've also had their sweet and sour "chicken" and it was good (a little syrupy for my liking). i have also had the baked tofu in sauce and the dumplings. very good! i really enjoy going here because it's so affordable and is a small business and i'm all for small businesses!
this place is tiny, cute, romantic and has decent food at a decent dinner price. i really enjoyed the food everytime i've eaten here. i had the vegan alfredo once (very tasty!) and the polenta. their soups and tea are also very good. i would recommend this place for a romantic dinner spot at night. they also have a good selection of organic wines. dessert here was always very good.
i question whether or not the staff knows which dishes are vegan, however. everytime i go in, it seems like i confuse the waitress, but otherwise, a very nice dining experience.
i've had good experiences here and some not so good experiences. the good experience was i got a cup of some really good java and the lady at the front spotted me 5 cents.
the bad experience-some guy working at the front tried to kick me out after waiting for 15 minutes for a friend and made me buy something. it was extremely rude and really, i could get coffee elsewhere. they serve hardtimes pastries-i'd just rather go to hardtimes.
NEWEST REVIEW: I'm changing my mind about this place again. Perhaps third time's a charm and I shouldn't have judged too quickly. I had a vegan snickerdoodle today along with a vegan gluten free chai cupcake and they were both divine! The snickerdoodle was crisp along the edges and chewy in the center. It also had just the right tang to it, if you get my drift. It's honestly the best vegan snickerdoodle I've had. Ever. My chai cupcake was beautifully crafted, moist and spicy-just how I imagine a chai cupcake to look and taste. I think I'm going to wait before I judge these guys too harshly again. The guy behind the counter this time was a lot more friendly and talkative, not that I expect him to be jumping off the walls, but when I see things labeled "vegan", I tend to do just that. IT's not about matching my excitement, just showing a little enthusiasm-maybe talking the guests up a little bit. Also, it was close to closing time and both of the items I had tasted fresh still. They are obviously doing a great job and I will definitely come back! I do not mind paying a little more for cupcakes that look and taste like a dream.
OLDER REVIEW: i've been here a handful of times since the first review and things have changed. the cupcakes have started to taste old. also, every person behind the counter at this place has an icky attitude. they are not friendly at all and when i try to ask questions, they reply with their nose in the air. i don't think i'll be coming here anymore and i'm going to notify others of my continued bad experiences there-this really turned me off and the wedge has kickass (bigger) vegan cupcakes/cookies/treats anyway.
OLDEST REVIEW: my boyfriend and i bought one of each vegan treat that they had available tonight. we bought a vegan chocolate cream cheese cupcake, vanilla bean scone, double chocolate chip cookie, faustess cupcake and a vanilla orange cupcake, all for $13.
the chocolate cream cheese cupcake was pretty good, but i like my cream cheesey treats to be really cream cheesey! this one lacked the cream cheesey-ness i was craving. it was still very good though!
the vanilla bean scone was also very good. subtly sweet and just a hint of warm vanilla. it was slightly burnt on one side but all in all was very good!
the double chocolate chip cookie melted in my mouth. so tasty...
the faustess cupcake was probably the best thing! so decorative and the creme filling was exceptional.
the vanilla orange cupcake (and i quote my boyfriend) was fricking amazing.
i'm very excited to find out about this place! i'll be going a lot to satisfy my sweet tooth. the prices are not half bad either.
i have been here only once. i expected a larger vegan menu and did not quite understand the restaurant owner when explaining the menu. i was a little confused but ordered the kung pao as it is generally a safe dish to order. it was ok. i've had better elsehwere (bravo, evergreen), but maybe i need to give it a second try.
went there last night with some friends. i really enjoyed the food and the vegan cream cheese wontons! so good. the kung pao was significantly better this time around and though a bit pricey, i really enjoyed it!
i've always wanted to try this place and i was pleasantly surprised by the scone i had and the wrap i had. the scone was awesome! it was apple cinnamon and very chewy-not crumbly like other scones can be.
the wrap i had was the thai tofu wrap and that was also very good. they must have used extra firm tofu because the tofu was very chewy and delicious with the peanut sauce. i would come here again, though i didn't see much variety for vegans. the prices were a bit high too, but it was still very good!
cupcake now has "vegan mondays" according to the guy i called on the phone and has a couple of vegan options including vegan cupcake choices on mondays. i'm going to check it out this coming monday and will then update this review.
we finally took the time to visit this place. i told them it would be nice if they had more than one vegan cupcake, but it sounds like they only regularly make two kinds, chocolate and lemon.
i had the chocolate cupcake because it was the only one they had that night. it was pricey! (2.95 for a teeny cupcake) but once i bit into it, i definitely tasted the reason why. the frosting was INCREDIBLE. i asked if they would divulge what they put in it to make it so tasty and they would not. i was expecting that though. :)
i'd really enjoy it if they made more vegan cupcakes. it would be great to see some artistic ones like the regular ones in the display case that were vegan.
i visited this place on my lunch break since i can access it through the skyway. i had the acovado hummus wrap and it was superb and super filling! lots of veggies too.
the only thing i would say about d brian's is that it is fairly busy around lunchtime. i saw they offered some breakfast items but i did not see if any of these could be made vegan. also, they looked like they had some vegan soups which is nice. my wrap alone was $6.43, so kind of expensive, but you get a pickle! :)
this place is good if you want to wait a while for food. do not come hungry because it will be a while.
i think the idea is great and the food tastes incredibly fresh, however, i have left this place with a sore tummy more than once. it could be that my body is not used to all of the raw goodness, but i suspect otherwise.
as for the good food they offer (i have had good experiences here!):
the parfait is delish and i would recommend it. SO GOOD.
the raw pizza with avocado is amazing as well.
otherwise, i could make this food at home in actuality.
this place is great for minnesota! i'm so glad this place exists.
the shop is adorable and i love that this store sells vegan food items i cannot find anywhere else!!! LIKE VEGAN WHITE CHOCOLATE CHIPS AND VEGAN TOFFEE!!!
i will definitely be buying things from this place to help support it. their mission is wonderful and i'm glad i don't need to feel like a super activist to fit in at the store when talking to the people that own it because i am not. the lady i talked to seemed very nice.
my boyfriend and i love this place! we've never been let down or had something bad. i am a kung pao fiend, so i always get the kung pao. it is the best i've ever had. the place is small and in a basement (no cell phone reception), but the family knows "vegan" and is very friendly and willing to provide you with the best service. nearly the entire menu can be made vegan. this place is amazing and i would recommend it to anyone visiting the twin cities that was craving good, vegan chinese food.
this place may be overpriced a tinsy bit, but it is convenient to have an all vegan store and resource center available within the twin cities. i don't think many people realize that it is a luxury.
They have about 20 flavors of Temptation vegan soft serve, Need I say more.
We were completely satisfied with everything we had here. The place itself looks like a little pizza parlor-very cute an cozy. We got a large veggie pizza with Daiya, an order of nachos with refried beans and Daiya and cinna-dots (do contain honey for those of you that avoid it) minus the icing and our bill was $30. This place was incredibly delicious and I would come back in a heartbeat. The pizza was flavorful and crust was chewy. The nachos were piled high with veggies and beans as well as a hefty amount of Daiya. The cinna-dots were also very tasty, sweet and fluffy.
The service was friendly and prompt and the owner was very informative. I would definitely come back here to eat. They offer take-out, eat-in and take and bake pizzas.
it's really too bad this place had to close. :(
i love this place. my boyfriend and i go here when we want to spend little money on good food. we are big fans of their biscuits and gravy-THEY ARE THE BEST WE'VE EVER HAD! ANYWHERE! the cookies and treats cannot be beat. they make some of the ost interesting, delicious, affordable (fresh!) food out there. just make sure you prepare to pay only with cash and for a nice rustic atmosphere.
my boyfriend and i went here for dinner. it was really tasty. i had the vegan crepe and he had pad thai. i also had a lychee martini and that was tasty as well. he has a ginger ale cocktail and that wasn't half bad either. it's kind of expensive, however. i'd go here on a date night. it's pretty swanky.
the restaurant is ok. PLEASE BE AWARE...ALL CURRIES HAVE SHRIMP PASTE IN THEM. i visited them once before last night, and the waiter said the red curry was vegan.
last night i had the pad thai (minus the egg) after finding out i had eaten shrimp paste a month ago. the food was good. the service was questionable. the waiter was always doing something else, but the water boy was attentive! :)
the waiter took a long time to do anything. i would definitely try and find a better thai eatery-this one is too expensive, gave me wrong info and had slow service. nice atomsphere though.
i really enjoyed this place's dark roast and the fact that they offered vegan goods to eat-though not made by them, it is really nice to know that i have a coffee shop right down the road that offers good organic coffee and vegan snacks.
the one thing i wish this place had was later hours. i'm fairly certain they're only open until 6 or 7pm at the latest. it would be really great if they were open late night so i could come at night, get a cup of coffee and do my homework.
this place was given five out of five stars by both my boyfriend and myself and is pretty much the first place my boyfriend had vegan sushi that he really liked.
i had the vegan sushi lunch and he had the vegetable tempura lunch. my sushi was artfully presented and his tempura was very tasty and also presented very well. we also got two courses (a shitake soup and a japanese salad) beforehand and we really appreciated that. the service took a while but we were in no hurry.
we finished off our lunch with some daifuku, which was also very good, though kind of spendy. this place is great for a really nice lunch or dinner. we were glad to have finally experienced this place. it's honestly some of the best sushi i've personally ever had.
this place was ok. inquired beforehand to make sure lo mein and tofu dish were vegan and they were. nothing else is vegan. you can get white rice. i would go here if there was nothing else open, this place is really not that great for vegan selections or taste.
TRY THE NEW GLUTEN FREE MENU. IT IS AMAZING. i had the vegan brownie and it was so good, i couldn't eat it all. the place has been remodeled and it looks great! fantastic place to eat.
this place is always good. they consistently offer good service. i enjoy the mock duck muffeletta sans olives. i crave it. they also make the best peanut butter bars i've ever had. good atmoshpere and decent prices.
The vegan three bean chili is awesome! The owner also made me a vegan version of the veggie sandiwch and that was also very tasty. I believe they make their own hummus. I have yet to try the oatmeal.
this place was really nice. i did enjoy what i had and so did my boyfriend. i had the pad thai off of the vegan menu which was super tasty! though i don't know how you could screw up pad thai.
my boyfriend had the green curry off of the vegan menu. being that it was the first time we've ever had green curry, we didn't really know what to expect...but it was very tasty! we were really excited to have a decent thai place so near to our house (we live in ne mpls). the prices were pretty average and the decor itself was ok-it would have been nice if they had dimmed the lights-would've been really romantic. haha
this place makes really good food but is kind of pricey. their milkshakes are to die for! i would not say they are worth the $8 charged, but they are good. it's a cute place too, lots of teas and supplements available.
i love this place. billy is my favorite bartender! i've had so much good food here, it's hard to expand. the vegan po boy is amazing with the vegan nacho cheese and the big a** burrito is incredibly tasty. you get a lot of food for a little price. the place is rustic and smells like a musky cabin, but this place can't be beat for delicious food. ps-try the cooks revenge! i've never had a bad one. :) pps they have hardcore cider on tap-all the more reason to go.
here's the lowdown on this place. the decor is that of a hole in the wall trashy bar. the cook was very nice though. i asked him what he could do for vegans and he said that he could get me a vegan hot dog or veggie black bean burger but that the hot dogs were fried in the same oil as meat. i cringed at this and opted for the black bean burger, which was incredibly tasty for only $3! trhe fries are also fried in the same oil i presume.
he was very informative about how he prepared the food he served though and did not hesitate to tell me these things, which i respect. it was a really fun experience overall. the cook seems really nice.
i had the soy cheese pizza. soooo good! it was only ten dollars too for the small one. i would recommend this place to vegans in the area. daiya vegan cheese is super tasty.
*even though their website says that their soy cheese has casein, it doesn't! they use daiya!*
this place is fantastic! i loved everything i've had. first visit, i had a piece of vegan boston creme pie, which was great. the cream in the middle was on the coconutty side, but was still tasty. the fruit tart my boyfriend had was excellent though! the vanilla custard under the strawberries was perfect and the crust was soft and buttery.
the second visit, i had a peanut butter oreo shake which was also very tasty! i plan on going back tomorrow one last time before we leave for home,
best vegan mac n cheese i've ever had! i would definitely come back here and the atmosphere also is very fun and laid-back! my boyfriend had the chik'n salad sandwich which was very good, but heavy on the dill. very tasty and decently priced.
there are a select few flavors of the oatmeal, but you can build-your-own i think as well. this place is great and the oatmeal portion is huge! and comes with a compostable lid so you can save the rest for later if you like. :) great for an on-the-run breakfast.
this place was really really good and everything's vegan. we enjoy good bar food, so this was right up our alley. i had the frito bowl which was chili with fritos, daiya cheese and vegan sour cream. my drink (the bye and bye) was humongous and was served in a mason jar! it was quite strong but if you enjoy bourbon in your fruity drink, you might like it! my boyfriend had the meatball sub which was very tasty as well. he had 'the stockholm' as a drink and it was also very tasty, but quite strong. i'd come back here!
this place has great food! the girls were gorgeous and they had the best vegan taquitos ever! i also enjoyed the vegan nachos. they came was an interesting cheesy dip on top that was incredible. i understand that a strip club is not the preferred hang-out for someone that just wants to enjoy some food, but the girls are fun and they didn't bother us for a dance because we gave them some ones every now and again. this place was super fun!!
the vegan chicken salad sandwich was huge and is a must-get! so tasty-perfectly seasoned. the vegan bacon cheezburger my boyfriend had was also very good-both were super tasty!!
this place was great! they can make anything on their menu vegan. i of course had the vegan waffle sandwich, which was fantastic! the waffle is perfect-slightly crunchy outside and tender inside with some good vegan sausage. my boyfriend had the smore waffle sandwich, which was also super tasty but could've used more rice mallow! otherwise very tasty and a super nice guy serves the food. :)
this food cart is great and everything's vegan. i love greasy spoon food and this was excellent for what i was craving. i had the chili cheese dog and it was not only huge, but cheesy (DAIYA!) and just spicy enough and HUGE. i couldn't finish it. it made a great leftover. my boyfriend had the loafaroni which was meatloaf and macaroni and cheese on a bun. very tasty and really big. he got the cornbread, which i didn't really think tasted like cornbread at all, but it still was very savory sweet.
the vegan slice (a focaccia pizza) is great! the pesto on it was very tasty and for three dollars, this is a really big slice! the crust is perfect and the spices make up for the lack of vegan cheese on the pizza.
this place was wonderful since we love good vegan all american food. i had the vegan corn dogs, which were perfect! just how i remembered them before i was vegan. i also had a cup of their cream of brocolli soup which was excellent and perfect for the cold, rainy afternoon we were having.
my boyfriend had the club sandwich, which was vegan ham, tempeh and avocado with mayo and lettuce. excellent! very good. we ate everything and would definitely come back!
the gelato (italian ice) is like nothing i've ever had before. it was smooth, yet had chunks of delicious frozen fruit in it. the owner was super nice and extremely helpful. he will be selling coconut ice cream in the future. we had a sample of the thai coffee flavor and it was scrumptious and smooth.
this place wasn't bad, it just could have been better. the layout of the restaurant is super fun, but the food lacked a little pizzzaz. the biscuits and gravy were like buns that had been re-heated in the oven and then topped with a so-so almond gravy. the cranberry almond pancakes my boyfriend had were tasty, but had to slather them in syrup. they were also a bit on the grainy side. overall, it was ok but i don't think we'll be coming back.
the mudpie shake i had was pretty tasty, though i expected it to be sweeter. the cookies and creme shake my boyfriend had was excellent! and you could still drink it through a straw so it was not chunky at all and still retained that vanilla sweetness of the creme of the oreos.
the vegan crepes we had here were perfect! great texture, perfectly thin and delicious. i had the nutella crepe which had nutella baked into the crepe itself, topped with sliced strawberries and melted chocolate sauce. delicious!
my boyfriend had the crepe with lemon butter and baked apples which was also very flavorful-tart and savory. very good experience and a very cute place!
this place was good. very nice to walk into a bakery that's all vegan and be able to have choices. i had a vegan chocolate tart, which just tasted like vegan pudding in a mini pie crust that was a little too dry. i may have gotten a older one though, because it was the last one in the case. my boyfriend got a lemon bar and said it wasn't that great as he remembers lemon bars having more of a custard instead of a lemon gel-like substance. the one thing i liked here was the set-up (very coffee-shop-ish) and the fact that they had vegan mochas on the menu! we also shared a piece of cinnamon coffee cake, which again, was so-so. i can make a better one.
this place was truly yummy, though the service lacked a little. our server never came back and we were served our food by the cook i think! i had the chicken fried steak, which was amazing! perfect in every way-i'm not a big fan of almond gravy (i prefer mushroom), but this almond gravy was delectable! the chicken fried steak was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
my boyfriend had the buffalo tofu wrap. he said it was good, but nothing to write home about. the fries, however, were excellent.
WE LOVE VOODOO DOUGHNUTS! they carry raised and cake doughnuts and all of the flavors are amazing. i would recommend this place to anyone, although the only downside is that they run out fast so if you want a specific kind, it may not be there. still fun though to walk in and see what they have. this place is fantastic!
ditto what i said in my review for voodoo doughnut, but this one makes vegan blunts, which are my FAVORITE! i love this place. super fun, not very neat or clean, but the tastiness of the treats makes up for the lack of glamour. :)
i had the vegan chocolate hand pie, which was delicious! just how i remember handpies tasting. the chocolate was smooth and creamy and the crust was buttery and just tender enough.
i had the french dip, which is vegan. my boyfriend had the black bean burger. we thought this place was pretty good. i've never had a french dip in my life, so even though i'm vegan now, i have nothing to compare it to. the black bean burger was good. the french dip was pretty tasty! i would say that you don't get a lot of food for the money, but otherwise, this place had a nice atmosphere (kind of fancy) and some of the desserts are vegan! we just didn't get any because we had already been to mighty-o donut. :)
mighty o donuts was very good, although their donuts are limited to cake donuts. i really like cake donuts, so i'm ok with this. my boyfriend, after being to voodoo donuts in portland, says otherwise. :)
i had a cinnamon sugar donut, which was delectable! fluffy and sweet. i also had the french toast donut, which was also very tasty. just like french toast. my boyfriend had the lemon poppyseed donut and and the chocolate peanut butter, which were both very good and tasted just like the flavor implies. very straightforward. delicious nontheless!
this place is always good for a drop-by when i'm in wi. the food is decent (though cold) but the desserts have never been a let-down!
very good smoothies, juice and coffee!
