I loved this place. The food and service were excellent! I was so glad to see Gobi Manchurian was still on the menu (although it is definitely sweeter than Udupi's was). I can't wait to try the lunch buffet, every day except Monday, when they are closed. It was a very romantic and delicious evening :)

This is easily my favorite restaurant on University. A few changes since 2008! They offer tofu and mockduck on many dishes now and the food is clearly labeled in the menu. They are right next door to their original location, still on the north side of the street at Farrington.

One thing that hasn't changed since 2008 -- the spice level! I routinely order my food medium spicy, and I can't handle it here. I have to ask for "mild." (Which is far from mild in my opinion!)

I have enjoyed every single dish I've ever had here. Curries, soups, and stir fries.

They were very nice, but did not have a single vegan pastry or sandwich when I was there on a Saturday morning at 10:30.

When I inquired, I wasn't told that they "sold out" or anything like that, but rather that they carry a granola bar.

They were nice and aware of veganism (offering vegan chocolate powder over chocolate syrup for example) but awareness won't fill my belly!!

I love this place, especially when they have belly dancers! It has a fun atmosphere, and a really nice layout for a restaurant. I've been there in a small group or a large one, and we always received excellent food and service. I highly recommend it!

I love the lunch buffet. We have only gone to the "South Indian" buffet, and would not try the North because of the limited selection. But they have the best gobi manchurian that I know of in the twin cities!

I <3 Camdi! We eat there often, since my partner works at the UMN. It's a great place to eat, the owner is extremely friendly, and they automatically give you the veggie menu. I love that.

Of course, I'm not sure if I've ever had *bad* potatoes and onions, but they are definitely the best at Camdi!

I am going with a rating of "3" to be nice. They are a good place. The food was okay. The service was okay. It was cute when the chef came out with her daughter in tow.

However, the food wasn't very good. It was expensive. They don't offer condiments, which I found to be odd. (I've never been to a Chinese restaurant that doesn't have soy sauce, or an Indian restaurant without yogurt???)

We went there with a Blue Sky Guide coupon, and I would probably go back, to see if things have improved after a couple of months. (sometimes restaurants just get off to a rough start, after all....)

Football pizza is the best. You can choose between regular sauce or spicy. We love spicy, but my son gets regular, so I have tried both. They are both delicious. This location is usually less busy than their other location on Central. It's small, but we've never had trouble getting a table or having to wait for service.

When we arrived, we were seated right away. I was pleased to get a table by the window, since the walkways between tables were very narrow.

Our server was rude to us for no reason we could understand. It seemed to start when she asked what we would like to drink: my partner ordered a Summit, and I asked for a water with no ice. That seemed to offend her greatly. Wen she returned with the water, she slammed it on the table without saying anything. My partner never received his Summit.

The food was mediocre as well. We started off with Mulligatawny soup, which I have had at least 20 different versions of before tonight. The version we received was nothing like any mulligatawny soup I've ever had; it was more like a dahl, but with a weird, bitter taste. It was inedible, and we didn't eat it. The full soup bowl sat on the table for the entire meal -- no one ever asked why we weren't eating it, or even how our meal tasted.

The appetizer we chose were veggie samosas. In this case, we were not disappointed. They were delicious.

We ordered an okra dish and gobi manchurian for our main course. These were both good, but the gobi manchurian had a strange sauce. While it normally has a sauce that could be likened to buffalo sauce with a medium spice, this was more like a sweet barbecue sauce. It was still good though.

We were charged for the Summit we never received. The manager kindly took it off, but did not ask anything else. There appeared to be only 2 front house employees, and they were not well trained as waitstaff.

I looked forward to trying this restaurant for several months, but I won't be back. I will sometimes give a restaurant another shot, but there was just too much wrong in this case.

Great story about my 31st birthday:

While we were waiting over 15 minutes for a server to come back to our table of 4 (just for the drink order), a young lady was trying desperately to get into a bathroom but it was occupied. So she threw up right next to our table. No one really rushed over to clean it up. (although an employee did come over to check on her, which was a good thing.)

We couldn't take the smell, so we ended up going to an outdoor table. I don't like eating outdoors at a restaurant to start with, especially not on a busy street. We finally placed our order. 20 minutes after we placed it, our server came back to tell us they were out of what my dad ordered (some kind of porridge). After he changed his order our food came in about 1/2 an hour. The chips accompanying my guacamole were very broken, so I asked for a new order. I was charged for them.

This was the worst experience I had there, but whenever I eat there there is a consistent theme: slow service, although it is usually friendly. They make every meal to order so it takes a long, long time.

The last time I went there was also one of the most pleasant... the first date with my boyfriend, we got a secluded table and good service and were out in about an hour and a half.

I enjoy raw vegan food. That is why I've been to ecopolitan so many times. I love going to a vegan restaurant because you never have to worry about what could end up in your food.

Eden Pizza in Twin Cities, Minnesota

Eden pizza offers a great variety of toppings for their pizza. They have a good selection of vegetarian specialty pizzas, and they are also willing to substitute mock duck for any meat. (If you haven't tried mock duck on a pizza or think it sounds weird, trust me, it's wonderful!)

Their namesake and specialty, The Eden Pizza, is fantastic and worth finding this little hole-in-the-wall for. It comes topped with Garlic Sauce, Apple, Green, Red & Yellow Peppers, Garlic, Onion and Gorgonzola.

I could easily go through many of their pizzas that way; they are all unique, and very delicious.

Fasika in Twin Cities, Minnesota
Sep 18 14

rating star

My favorite thing about Fasika is that they will give you 2 half dishes, and still charge you just for one dish.

I love to get a spicy dish and a not spicy dish, because every vegetarian dish they have there is excellent!

My biggest complaint about Fasika is the service. It is always very slow, and it takes a long time to get your food. If you are in a hurry, (or just prefer friendliness) I would go to nearby Flamingo instead!

Grumpy's Bar & Grill in Twin Cities, Minnesota

Their food is fine, a bit greasy in my opinion. But I prefer to drink in a place where the staff is friendly.

I have been here on several occasions, because I have a few friends who love it. One time, I waited at the bar for 10 minutes, and the bartender still wouldn't come.

There are a lot of nice bars with good veggie food, and I prefer to go to them.

It's amazing to me that two locations of the same restaurant can be so different!

This Grumpy's has fabulous atmosphere, a friendly staff, and their food is excellent!

They also have a very fun karaoke at night.

They have especially good veggie sandwiches and soups, when they have them. I can't always figure that out, even though I used to volunteer there I am still as clueless as anyone.

I wish they would post something.

But mostly, it is a very veg friendly place both to eat and to do grocery shopping.

Jay's has excellent food, and they are always accommodating of both vegetarianism and kids. (My two big requirements!) They will adjust just about anything on there menu for you.

I have only been there on the weekend, but I'm dying to try out a dinner, because they have a portabella dinner that sounds delish!

Old World Pizza in Twin Cities, Minnesota
Jul 21 11

rating star

Old World Pizza has an excellent selection of toppings. I've had the Meatless Marvel and the Macaroni and Cheese pizzas, and they were both excellent. We've also had a pizza with sauerkraut and green olives, which was also delicious.

We've also had very good service when we've been there. The staff is friendly and helpful, and also very prompt.

I've also really enjoyed the salad bar. They have excellent salad dressings available. It only costs $2.50 to add the salad bar when you've ordered pizza (and it's only $4.95 if you didn't order pizza, but I'm guessing that doesn't happen very often!). I especially like that they have pickle spears on the salad bar :)

I highly recommend this restaurant. It's spacious and has a nice atmosphere, with friendly service staff and excellent food.

Pizza Luce in Twin Cities, Minnesota
Jan 14 09

rating star

I really enjoy eating at this location of Pizza Luce, except when I am seated by the window. (There are huge windows at the front, and it gets very cold there in the winter.)

I always enjoy pizza luce, because at least half of their pizzas are vegetarian. Of course, I always get the same thing: mashed potato pizza. It's the best pizza in the whole world!

Punch Woodfire Pizza in Twin Cities, Minnesota
May 31 10

rating star

I enjoy Punch Pizza. It's very fast, and I really like their toppings. The reason that I keep going back is because they have amazing salads. I usually have the "greco," but today I tried the "gorgonzola," which was delicious.

My son put it best when he said, "I would really like this pizza if it didn't have this black junk on it." Because of the fast cooking, there is some ash on the bottom of the pizza. It's very noticeable when you get out to the crust. That's the only reason that Punch isn't my favorite. The flavors on the pizza are excellent.

We have been here twice. Both times, we had terrible service (from two different servers). The food is amazing. But in my opinion, it just isn't worth the terribly slow service. I would recommend going to this restaurant and having take out. When you walk in, they ask "take out or dine in?" and I won't pick 'dine in' again.

The final straw was when my son asked for soy sauce when we received our food. By the time our server brought it, my sons food was gone (and he is a very slow eater!). Our waiter said, "Oh, I guess I'm a little late, huh?" Right. Just a little.

It was not busy either time we were in. We still got very slow service.

My food was overcooked and the service was very unimpressive. We did have a large group (11 people) but our server had so many other tables that she couldn't keep up with everything. It was very busy there, even though it was a Thursday night, although I believe they are generally busy and should've been adequately staffed.

I tried 3 other dishes and they were all amazing. I think that this is a very good restaurant for take away food if you live in the area, but I don't recommend going with a large group.

The bathrooms are disgusting, and the service isn't great, but the food is amazing. I've only been there for breakfast on the weekend, but I've really enjoyed my food every time. The prices are also reasonable, since the orders are huge. I'd recommend going when you are Hungry -- with the capital H!

Cilantro in Akron, Ohio
Mar 22 14

rating star

Cilantro is an amazing restaurant. They have lots of options for vegans and vegetarians.

When we ordered, our server asked if we were vegetarian because we both ordered meatless entrees, and then asked if cream was okay, and if fish sauce was okay. We said, no, is there an alternative, and there was. We were very impressed by their knowledge of the menu.

The restaurant itself is also quite impressive. It is decorated beautifully and looks like it should be a much more expensive restaurant than it is! (I hope they don't get any ideas from that...)

The most impressive thing about Cilantro is definitely the food. We ordered the mock duck curry, which is a red curry, and it was amazing. We also had the ginger stir fry with tofu, which was also amazing, and you could really taste the ginger.

I highly recommend eating at Cilantro if you are in the Akron area! We were actually staying in Cleveland, and I would definitely drive down to Akron just to eat at this restaurant again. It was well worth the drive.

Happy Dog in Cleveland, Ohio
Mar 22 14

rating star

I could eat a field roast dog from Happy Dog every day of my life.

This is easily my new favorite restaurant. They have so many options to customize your hot dog that it is just crazy. Some of our favorites:

"Breakfast Dog" had fruit loops, peanut butter, and an egg. My son insists it was delicious, although I didn't try it myself.

"Chili Dog" had vegetarian chili, garlicky escarole, mushrooms, carmelized onions, and black truffle dijon mustard (they call it black truffle honey mustard, but it is definitely dijon.). It was amazing.

They have a card that lists which of their toppings are vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. It is a handy little list and makes it really easy to check.

Their tots are amazing, although I didn't care for the fries. You can order as many dipping sauces as you want and they come on the side.

Also, they have a great list of beers on tap.

Melt Bar & Grilled in Cleveland, Ohio
Mar 22 14

rating star

Melt is a great restaurant. The food is just amazing, and can be customized. Our favorite was the chorizo and potato sandwich, which you can order with vegan chorizo at no extra charge. (I think there is a charge for vegan cheese though.)

The service is not as friendly as at other places we've been to, and this location feels much more like a bar than the Independence location.

Udupi Cafe in Cleveland, Ohio
Mar 22 14

rating star

They have a fairly good selection of Indian food. We used to have an Udupi Cafe here (Columbia Heights, MN) and their menu is very similar, although strangely the dishes were very different!

Everything was very delicious, and I would especially recommend the Mulligatawny soup, the Vegetable Korma, Gobi Manchurian (wet style) and the Batura (bread). Everything was excellent.

Singha Thai Cuisine in Eau Claire, Wisconsin
Apr 25

rating star

This place is amazing! Many of their dishes are served with a specific meat, and so we just skipped those.

They have several menu items that can for sure be prepared vegan. In fact, when we ordered them with tofu, the server asked immediately if we would like it without fish sauce and chicken stock (before we even asked!).

We had the green curry, the exotic curry dish, masaman curry, and tom kha. They were all amazing. We loved this restaurant so much that even though we were just driving through Eau Claire, we made sure to be driving through at a meal time on the way back, as well!

The food is truly delicious, and I would highly recommend it for anyone in the area.

FANTASTIC! I couldn't believe their menu. We were all very pleased especially with the Faux Boy which I think might be the best veggie sandwich I ever had in my life.

I will go to this place every time I go to Milwaukee, guaranteed. Even though my son complains about the smoke.
