This restaurant is great! The tiny seating area allows a view of the kitchen, the waitstaff is friendly and full of suggestions for dishes to try, and veg*ns have quite a few options to choose from. Portions are filling and full of flavor, though not spicy. A fun option for those looking for an alternative to common Mediterranean or Indian food.
A good place to go when dining with non-vegans/vegetarians. I always end up bringing home leftovers. Good flavor and fast service, but plan on a wait to get in. It seems as if they fill the plates with a lot of rice so they can skimp on the actual dish--the yellow vegetable curry had very little tofu but a lot of rice. A fun place to try, but not a place to frequent.
As soon as you look at the menu you'll add this restaurant to your list of favorites. The vegan garlic cheese bread is awesome, and it only gets better once you get to the main dishes. The Alamo pizza (vegan style) is probably the best pizza in existence. The vegan cheese is to die for.
As if the great food isn't enough to keep you coming back for more, the atmosphere is funky, fun, and eclectic, and the waitstaff are extremely friendly. Ask them for suggestions if you're not sure what to get, and they'll point you towards their favorites.
What a unique, funky, cheap, and delicious place to eat, sip coffee, and chat with friends! Even if you go there for a meal, save room for a muffin or a cookie... they're definitely worth it. A great place for people-watching, as folks from all over the city come in. And food even non-veg*ns will love. If you're looking for a cheap, fresh meal, you can't beat Hard Times.
The lunch buffet has enough vegetarian options to keep everyone happy. The menu isn't extremely helpful as to which items are vegan, and the waiter acted annoyed when I asked for clarification. The food was tasty and fresh. A nice place to visit, but not somewhere I'd return.
A great idea in that anyone can put exactly what they want into their dish, and you can experiment with different sauces and levels of spiciness. Your dish is prepared on the same grill as meat dishes but if you ask them they will clean it off as best they can before they cook your dish (tipping them a dollar or two helps!). The appetizers are included in the price of the meal, but only the cole slaw and rice are vegan as far as I know.
There were a few veg options, but no particularly exciting ones. They use Silken tofu, which when fried could only best be described as spongy on the outside and liquid on the inside. I ended up picking out all the tofu because it was so squishy and watery, even though the waitress told me they used firm tofu, so my dish consisted of some rice and a few vegetables. I found it to be overpriced and the waitstaff were a bit on the snooty side. On the upside, service was fast even though the restaurant was busy.
What a great meal! I ordered a lentil dish with berbere sauce (#53). It was flavorful and just a little spicy, and the portion was more than enough to fill me up. My friend had the dish with potatoes, green beans, and carrots in it (Faseola? I don't remember how to spell it) and his was very mild but had a nice glaze on it. The Injera was great, too. We each got a large portion of the dish we ordered and a small portion of what the other person ordered, so we could each try each other's. The meal also comes with an extra piece of Injera, which was nice. It was reasonably priced at 8-9 dollars per dish. We left the restaurant full and happy and will definitely return next time we are in the Cities.

The Inn Season is a must every time I go to Royal Oak. I've tried just about every vegan dish on the menu. Some of the daily specials are usually vegan, too, which adds a little variety to the experience. No matter how full we are when we dine there we always have to get dessert anyway! If you know someone who insists vegetarian and vegan fare is plain, flavorless or "too weird", take them here and you will change their mind. This is upscale food in a casual setting. Prices average 7-10 dollars per plate and desserts are about $5 each.
