I was so excited to eat here after seeing their ad in Vegetarian Times for years. Was SO disappointed--the menu is huge, but I thought I'd try the daily special curry, something with eggplant, I think. Bland and watery, not nearly as good as you can get in other Chicago Indian places (go to Udupi on Devon!).

This place is so close to where I stay in Chicago that I really wanted to like it. Unfortunately the attitude of the staff was about as mediocre as the food (very limited veggie options)...won't return soon.

My husband and I love this place for a quick, inexpensive lunch when we visit the Art Institute. A bowl of soup and their dark brown bread will fill you up or choose from several vegan entrees for a fancier meal. We've enjoyed the vegetarian sampler platter with guests.

My husband and I treat ourselves to dinner at Udupi whenever we can--it's hard to get to if you don't have a car and it's a bit crazy to park when you do have one...but it's worth the effort.

Our favs are samosas, rasam soup (very spicy), mulligatawny, paper masala dosai and just about any curry (I love eggplant and spinach so often choose the Baigan Bhartha or Palak Paneer). I've tried their fancier sister restaurant, Tiffin, which also serves meat dishes, and didn't find it better. You really can't go wrong with anything at Udupi--go hungry!
