This is hands-down my favorite vegetarian restaurant in Portland. I don't know how they prepare their tofu, but I almost want to get a job there just to find out. So far, our favorites have been the eggplant crisps (totally haute cuisine) and the sesame tofu. They also offer a different flavor of vegan cheesecake every day. If I could afford it, I'd eat here for every meal.
Frankly, I don't think that Old Wives' Tales should be considered a veg-friendly restaurant anymore. Maybe once upon a time when vegetarians' options were really limited, this restaurant was considered veg-friendly. Now the menu is so limited, outdated, and frankly unappetizing. Our experience there was poor: our food was mediocre and bland; the meal was too expensive considering the quality of food; it completely lacks ambiance whatsoever; and the service was poor. A disappointment on all fronts.
My boyfriend and I adore VegeThai, have always had great service and fantastic food there. This is a favorite of ours.
