Anchalee Thai is a hidden gem in the middle of a run-down strip mall. Don't be put off by the parking lot though. Once you step inside, you are met with beautiful decor, friendly service, and the best Thai food in Greenville.
Anchalee Thai offers a great selection of vegan appetizers, curries, and stir-fried dishes. This restaurant has several vegetarian and vegan menu items, and others can be made vegan upon request. I like to start out with the veggie tempura, fried tofu, or veggie spring rolls for an appetizer. The curries here are phenomenal, a great blend of flavors and spices, and the veggies are always perfectly cooked. You can go as mild or as spicy as you want. If you are strict vegan or vegetarian, be sure to ask your server for no fish sauce in your dish.
The service here is very knowledgeable and friendly. They make you feel like part of the family. The servers are happy to check on ingredients or make substitutions. I frequently go with a large group of people, and they handle it very well. (Though it might be nice to give them a call ahead of time.) This place works well for a casual family outing, or even a special occasion date night.
While you are in the neighborhood, stop by the Asian market two doors down to stock up on your curry pastes, bulk rice, interesting produce, and other Asian staples.
Mellow Mushroom has great food and is very veg friendly. It's the first restaurant in Greenville to offer vegan cheese -- amazing! I love the pizzas with Daiya cheese. And the tofu and tempeh sandwiches are the best vegan sandwiches in town (just ask if you can sub avocado for the mayo and cheese). Yum! If you are a very strict vegan, I suggest checking out their online nutritional info (http://mellowmushroom.com/public/allergens102411.pdf) before your visit because some of the sauces and marinades have dairy/honey in them. Also be sure to ask them to hold the butter and parmesan on the pizza crust.
A fun place to visit, but be prepared to wait a little while for a table and then for your food. Pizzas here can get a little pricey if you start adding on the toppings, but it's worth it for a splurge!
Carrburritos has some of the tastiest, freshest California style Mexican I've ever had. They have tons of vegan options. It is a fun, lively atmosphere. I learned the right way to wrap a burrito from watching these guys. It is right down the street from the Cat's Cradle, so a great place to grab a bite before a show.
Lilly's makes excellent vegan pies. They offer a huge selection of vegan toppings. Who knew pistachios on pizza were so good? There is usually a crowd of people in here, and it can get smoky sometimes. (Not from cigarettes...from the oven!) But it is fun, and you can sit outside if the weather is nice.
This is my favorite place to go for vegan food in Raleigh. Everything I've ever ordered has been great. I love that they have a huge selection of vegan options, including desserts and breakfast items! This is probably the best place for vegan brunch in Raleigh. Fun atmosphere and great drinks too!
