I've ordered from Cosmos Vegan Shoppe and have always been very impressed. Leigh and Ken, the owners, are awesome and generous vegans.

I dined with 2 others today (for lunch) and we shared the Madeleine Club, the BBQ Tempeh, and the Cajun Caesar sandwiches. All 3 were mouth watering.
Definitely save room for dessert when you're here.

The food here is downright incredible.
I had the Tropical Mock Chicken Burrito (with mock chicken, plantains, onions, peppers, brown rice, black beans, and avocado). It's huge and it's only $5.75. I had a bite of my dining companion's falafel and it was the second best falafel I've ever had. (See my review for the best falafel under "Kavarna" in Green Bay, WI).
The atmosphere is quintessential California beachy & casual.

I got take-out here while visiting my sister in Oceanside.
I was QUITE impressed with the food. The spring rolls (they call them fresh rolls) are incredible. They are loaded with more veggies than any spring roll I've ever had. Be sure to ask for them without shrimp.
I also ordered the Fresh Ginger stir fry. It was loaded with shredded ginger, mushrooms, and green onions. Pure delight!
The staff is quick, courteous, and very aware of what vegan means. I highly recommend trying this restaurant.

Even though this place is part of Green Routes (GreenRoutes.org), they had surprisingly very little vegan friendly food. I had the tofu scramble, which was good (but I've had better). On my next visit, I'll try their homemade hummus. I've heard great things about it.
Our server was very forgetful and inattentive, but she was helpful when it came to knowing what was vegan or not.
I rated it an 8 though, because I loved the secondhand plates and silverware, the coffee, and the overall atmosphere of this place. Playing Scrabble here over coffee and breakfast was one of the highlights of my trip to Duluth.

This co-op is beautiful. I wish I could shop there all the time, but I don't live in Duluth.
Look in the deli case for the macrobiotic and vegan Thai dumplings. Yummmm. Also, their falafel is delicious.
I found Sweet & Sara vegan marshmallows in the refrigerator case, too. They were a delightful and unexpected find!
I noticed a bunch of other vegan deli options, but didn't have room in my tummy to try them all!

I think the portobella mushroom fajitas are absolutely delicious. The wood roasted vegetables weren't tasty though. As always, the guacamole was heavenly.

I went here to listen to a friend's band play. I really enjoyed myself. The coffee was incredible. They had a sign up that said something about vegetarian tamales, but I didn't inquire further. I plan to go back soon to investigate their food more carefully.

I just ate here today for lunch. I had the mock fish with mushrooms. It comes heaping on a plate with white rice - all for just $4.75! My girlfriend got the mock chicken with broccoli. The mock fish was 1000x better than the mock chicken. The mock fish is soooooooo good.
The owner doesn't speak English well, but she did tell us that some of the dishes have egg whites in them. Be sure to ask before ordering.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think they make their own mock meats from scratch.

Meh...I wasn't impressed with the dish I ordered. Although it was great to see a menu with vegan dishes clearly marked at a restaurant in the suburbs.

Chatterbox Pub in Twin Cities, Minnesota

I had a good experience at the Chatterbox Pub. I was with a group of 8 - I was the only vegan. After learning of my veganism, the manager came to my table and offered to whip up a special wrap sandwich for me. It was delicious and he mentioned that it was going to be put on the menu in the near future. It's very similar to the Cinco de Mayo dip listed on their current menu - except without the dairy. I really appreciated their efforts. The bartender even veganized their bloody mary for me.

I have never had such an amazing vegetarian sushi roll in my life!!! It was *so* fresh. It's not listed on their dinner menu, but it is on their sushi menu which I had to ask for. This roll is worth going to the suburbs for.
I also had the pita & spreads listed on the appetizer portion of the menu. This was also extremely delicious.
We wanted to order the spring rolls - which appear to be vegan on the menu, but *gasp* they contain shrimp. Thankfully, our server alerted us. Hopefully they will change their menu - for vegetarians, vegans, and those with allergies.
I can't wait to go back here. Even though there are few vegan options, what they do have will make your taste buds dance!

Dashen Ethiopian Restaurant in Twin Cities, Minnesota

The food here was really delicious. The sambusas were the highlight. However, I was disappointed that despite the fact that they have a full huge bar, (and a special martini menu!) the staff did not know how to make a dirty (vodka) martini. Mine arrived in a rocks glass with ice. Then they brought it "up" in a martini glass (still filled with ice). After the final correction, it was a drinkable martini but barely worth all the effort. Anyway, don't go for the martinis...just go for the food!
Also, I've purchased Dashen's sambusas at Mississippi Market in St. Paul. Yum.

I ate here last night. It was really great. We did have to wait for a table, but it was definitely worth the wait. I had the Katahar curry (young jackfruit buds cooked with tomato, onion, and spices) and my dining companion had Ram-toria Bindi curry (fried okra sauteed with potato and herbs). I ordered mine "medium" and my dining companion ordered theirs "mild". Both were really, really good. I can't wait to go back.

This is a fun night spot on Cathedral Hill. I like to go for their late night happy hours. They serve food till midnight. All their salads are available with tofu upon request. The black bean dip (sans cheese) is a fantastic choice for a vegan appetizer. I've also had the black bean burger and spicy green beans. The staff has always been great about answering my questions and catering to my vegan requests. This is a great choice if you're looking for a place to hang out with a mixed crowd...there is something for everyone. Darts, NTN trivia, drink specials, omni and veg food. Aside from the bar, the dining room is a good place to bring your omni parents when they're in town.

Jasmine 26 in Twin Cities, Minnesota

Jasmine 26 finally had their grand opening this past weekend. I was there for the excitement. They've added MUCH more to their menu including noodle salads. They have a statement on each page of the menu that says they are a vegetarian friendly restaurant....and indeed they are. The vegetarian pho is amazing. The salt and pepper tofu is exquisite....quite possibly the best tofu I've *ever* had. Most dishes can be made vegan, even if they aren't listed as such on the menu....just ask! I've had a number of dishes made with mock duck in place of animal flesh. The staff is very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable.
I love this restaurant more than any other in the Twin Cities. The atmosphere, food, drinks, staff, all A++++ in my book. They are also large group friendly. I love to bring my friends here - veggies and non-veggies.

We visited this restaurant on their 4th day of business. My dining companion and I were quite impressed with everything! The presentation, the freshness of their ingredients, the decor, the prices...it was all great*. They make all their food to order, so special requests can be honored. They don't have a vegetarian spring roll listed on their menu, but they were happy to make some for us. Definitely get these when you're there!
We also had tofu satay which was delicious and indulgent. I had the laab salad with tofu for my main entree and my dining companion had the Massamun curry. We were both very pleased with all of our selections. Our server was kind and attentive (however, we were the only ones in the restaurant!). I'd like to see this restaurant succeed, especially since it's in my neighborhood.

*The only downfall is that they do not have mock duck - only tofu.

The "Shebas" bars are amazing. I went in looking for a sweet, decadent treat and was pleasantly surprised to find this vegan treat in the cold deli case.

The menu on their website listed lots of veg options but the paper menu wasn't as clear. The sushi list didn't include any vegetarian options at all but when I asked for vegetarian sushi, the server listed off many options. I had an avocado roll and a veggie roll which included some delicious green vegetables. Their miso soup is vegan, so I had that, too.
Our server was absolutely wonderful, the food was fantastic, and the atmosphere is really lovely. I'd eat here again in a heartbeat.

Pad Thai Grand Cafe in Twin Cities, Minnesota
Apr 16 06

rating star

Last night was my first visit to Pad Thai.
My server did not know what vegan meant and spoke very poor English, which was immediately frustrating. He did communicate with me that the sauce that comes with the vegetarian spring rolls has fish sauce in it. I tried to to eat the spring rolls plain, but they were so bland. I asked for some kind of sauce that didn't have fish in it, and they just brought soy sauce.
Thankfully, my entree was delicious. I can't recall the name, but it was peanut/coconut sauce with carrots and broccoli and I ordered fried tofu in it. The service was very fast.
My dining partner was not vegan nor vegetarian but when she discovered that her salad contained the same (fish) sauce as what comes with the vegetarian spring rolls, she opted not to eat the rest and we got it taken off the bill.
Even though my entree was really good, I'm not going to rush out and dine here again anytime soon.

I was told that everything with the leaf next to it on the menu is already vegan. If it doesn't have a leaf next to it, it can be made vegetarian or vegan by request. I noticed honey in one item with a leaf next to it, though.
I ordered spring rolls, which were delicious. I ordered the Soba-Miso bowl for my entree. It was a little plain (for my tastes), but that is exactly what I wanted because I was sharing it with my 4 year old son. Next time I go, I'm getting something more spicy!
The staff seemed really knowledgeable about special diets compared to most restaurants in the suburbs.
The atmosphere is quite nice for a chain/quick service counter type restaurant.

Pizza Luce in Twin Cities, Minnesota
Jan 14 07

rating star

The St. Paul location of Pizza Luce just opened and I've been there twice already. Both times were quite pleasant, even though it was very busy. Be prepared to wait a while for a table. My dining partner and I happily sat at the bar where a friendly vegan comrade tended to us.

We ordered a large pizza with vegan cheese on it. Vegan soy cheese is considered a premium topping, which added well over $4.00 to the cost, but the amount of cheese on the pizza was embarrassingly small. My non-vegan friend, especially, was not impressed with that. But we both devoured a vegan chocolate peanut butter bar and wished we had each ordered our own instead of sharing one.

Until they tear the house next door down and turn it into more parking spaces, be prepared for an atrocious parking lot.

I'm looking forward to more visits to my new neighborhood Pizza Luce. I also plan to try out their pizza delivery.

I've eaten here quite a few times, but not since they changed their menu. Their current menu boasts a symbol next to the items that are supposed to be vegetarian, which I was thrilled about UNTIL I was told that most of them contained fish sauce. Beware!
I ended up filling my belly with broccoli rolls, avocado rolls, rice, and a steamed (silken) tofu dish with green onions and ginger that they made up just for me. It was delicious, but I'm still not giving them a good rating.

I brought my 5 year old son here to celebrate his birthday. He specifically requested noodles and tofu for his birthday and a friend suggested Tanpopo. What a good choice!
We had the cold tofu appetizer, Japanese pickles, the wild mushroom soba soup (veganized, of course!), and mochi for dessert. It was all delicious....especially the mochi!

Squatters Pub Brewery in Salt Lake City, Utah

My boyfriend and I flew into town for 3 hours to visit a friend who lives near Salt Lake City. We decided Squatters would be the perfect dinner spot for our quick visit based on numerous recommendations from Yelpers and a fellow vegan friend who used to live in SLC. I'm so glad we went!
The clientèle here was exactly what I like to see - tattooed and pierced people, suburban looking families, hipsters, and business folk all in one place enjoying delicious beer and delectable bar food with a modern, healthier, slow foodie, locavore twist.
Service was slow at first. Once I got the waitress's attention, I was sure to let her know that we had a plane to catch. Thankfully, she stepped up the pace and didn't have too much of an attitude about my straightforward request.
I had the Tempeh salad. The tempeh was perfectly toasted and worked amazingly well with the artichoke hearts and other flavors/textures. I'd most definitely order this again if I'm ever fortunate enough to come back.
My boyfriend had the Chef's Veggie Burger. I snagged a few bites of it and we both agreed that it was the most delicious veggie burger we've ever had at a restaurant. It tastes nothing like a burger (which is how I prefer my veggie burgers). My boyfriend said it reminded him of a crab cake rather than a veggie burger. It's been ages since I've had a crab cake, so I don't know about that, but it was amazingly delicious. The avocado and hummus accompaniments really seal the deal.
I wish there was a Squatters in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Fresh and Natural Foods in Hudson, Wisconsin
Oct 20 08

rating star

I love this store. Here you can find some vegan items that are harder to locate at other natural food stores. Two examples are Tree Huggin' Treats and Follow Your Heart nacho cheese. They also have locally grown produce, lots of things for gluten-free living, and a deli where they make sandwiches to order, homemade hummus, juice, and smoothies. I want to give them 5 stars, but I think their prices are a little steep on some things and they haven't phased out plastic bags at the check-out like many natural food stores have.
I no longer live in Hudson, but I go back often to visit family. It's so convenient to stop here to pick up snacks for decidedly non-vegan-friendly family functions.
