Macy's is great!

We didn't get around to eating any of the hot items, but the sandwiches were fantastic! The avocado BLT was my favorite followed by the superbird (veg turkey, tofutti cream cheez, cranberry sauce) and the turkey BLT their tempeh bacon is fantastic! Although we had gotten a couple sandwiches for the next day's early morning train ride and they weren't too good at that point. so if you order a sandwich, eat it in the next few hours, or it'll get soggy. :-)

They also offer some fantastic pastries! And they are clearly marked whether they are vegan or wheat-free etc. My favorite was the tofu mango danish. I hadn't had a danish in years, and this really hit the spot.

We had the Cantonese Pasta and the Mountain Oasis Thai Dish. both were very tasty, and the portions are large enough for an entire meal of leftovers.

The server was very polite and accommodating.

We also had the Chai Chiller smoothie made with soy ice cream. it was very tasty. A teensy bit too banana-y, but tasty nonetheless.

They also have Alternative Baking Company cookies. (When he was talking about cookies, I thought they were homemade, so when he brought out the ABC cookies, I was a little disappointed, but at least they have vegan options. It's better than most restaurants.)

There aren't too many vegetarian options at the Grand Canyon, but the food that is vegetarian/veganizeable at the Bright Angel was fantastic. The Chili in a bread bowl was really good. And they had a pretty tasty veggie burger.

They fry their foods in a progressive use of oil. The first use of oil goes to the french fries, then to the onion rings and then to the non-vegetarian foods. I must say, those onion rings were tasty. (although I don't know what brand of beer they use in their batter, so if you avoid certain brands, I'd ask beforehand)

The food here was really wonderful! Flavorful and nutritious.

We had a black eyed pea dish that was amazing. the portions are a nice size, and the prices are very affordable. The atmosphere is very comfortable. It seems as if it's a spot that regular customers go to. It seemed like everyone knew each other (which was a nice change of pace)

We had vegan pecan pie for dessert. It wasn't fantastic, but it was still tasty.

I got one of their smoothies, and my first sip, i was punched in the face with an overpowering taste of honey.
it had honey in it? last I checked, honey wasn't vegan.
so if you're a non-honey eating vegan, you might want to make sure what you order is okay before blindly ordering it.

the carrot tuna sandwich was interesting, and the sweet potato cheesecake was pretty good (hopefully that didn't have honey in it)

Michelle's cakes are the best I've ever tasted. the cake itself is wonderfully moist and fluffy, and the frosting isn't overly sweet.

The "must-tries" are the cheesecake lover's cake, and the carrot cake. The chocolate and the tiramisu cakes are tasty as well, but the first two just blew me away.

My father is a devout carnivore, and he couldn't stop talking about the carrot cake.

In 2004, it was uncovered that the soy cheese that they have been putting on their pizza was in fact not home-made, nor was it vegan. They did not bother to apologize to the vegan community. I do not want to support a restaurant that lies to its customers, and acts as if it's 'no big deal'

the whole ordeal has been recorded here in the Philly Veg Out Livejournal Community

WARNING: don't eat the house soy sauce. it's not vegetarian.

--
My fiance and I are both vegan. We told this to the waitress when we first ordered our meals.

We ordered, ate the appetizers that we could find that was vegetarian, she came out with our meals, and mentioned in passing "with vegetarian soy" we half-jokingly asked her what kind of soy sauce isn't vegetarian.... she said their house soy sauce has fish sauce in it. Isn't that lovely? it wouldn't have been so bad if the waitress would have told us that it wasn't vegetarian ahead of time. That way, we could have NOT compromised our beliefs and made ourselves sick. (I am surprised at how quickly it messed me up)

We talked to the manager, and he didn't seem apologetic. After he talked to our waitress, he came back and said he'd take the (6 dollar) veggie maki off the bill... oh boy. Free fish! nobody can turn down free fish! Even if it means sitting on the toilet for hours. :-/

So, needless to say, I don't recommend this place to anyone. With the plethora of vegetarian restaurants in center city, why would anyone want to go to Morimoto and pay way too much money for bland food? (although there was an appetizer that had crispy caramelized onions that was really quite tasty, but the majority of our food really was nothing to write home about) Maybe for the chance to see iron chef Morimoto at the sushi bar, but that's really it. For vegetarians at least.

This place was okay. The food wasn't excellent, and we both had stomach aches afterward. the satay tasted a bit fishy, but the stomach aches weren't awful enough to attribute it to meat intolerances. if anything it might have been egg or milk? so if you go, make sure they know you don't eat eggs or milk. i asked the server if their curry paste is made with shrimp, and i don't know if he understood what i meant, but he said no. and their clear broth for the tofu and spinach soup is vegetable based.
