vegan-friendly dumpling spot
Dumpling Man is a tiny little restaurant on St. Marks that makes dumplings before your eyes. They only have 4 or 5 kinds of savory dumplings, but one of them is vegan (contains tofu and various veggies), and you can get them either steamed or seared. There are also some sweet dumplings, called coins, but the golden coin (banana, goji berry, and pine nut) is the only vegan one, as the others contain honey and/or milk.
There are a few vegan sides, including the tofu salad, soy bean pod salad, and greens salad, and some have an optional bonito flake (fish) topping, so be sure to have them leave that off. Also note that the miso soup has a fish broth.
The dumplings are 6 for $5.25 or 10 for $7.25 but they have a special between 3-5pm when you can get 6 dumplings and a small soda or water for only $3.50. The sweet dumpling "coins" are $1 each.
Dumpling Man has counter seating that can accommodate 6 or 7 people and they have a couple benches outside that can fit about 4 people, but most people seem to get this to go.
