I wish I'd known about Breadsmith earlier as there's a definite shortage of vegan baked good options in St. Paul. Breadsmith somewhat improves the situation by offering a few vegan options: a caramel pecan bun (Saturdays only); and either a chocolate bobka roll or loaf.

I had a chocolate bobka roll ($2.10 with tax) and it was delicious: not too much chocolate, not gooey, and fresh, soft pastry. The bobka was also really large which made it a great value at only $2.10.

If Breadsmith had a few more vegan dessert options I'd probably come back more often. That said, I'm looking forward to their caramel pecan bun on Saturday.

Watch out, the pumpkin muffins are no longer vegan, they sadly changed the recipe to include eggs at the Minnetonka branch, and I would assume this change is across the board for all stores.

If enough people expressed displeasure, who knows, maybe they'd revert to the old recipe. Doubtful, of course.

I like their bread a lot overall, the caramel pecan buns are awesome. Note that they're only available Thursday and Saturday.

When I asked the young woman behind the counter if they were the vegan ones, she seemed to think that kosher and vegan are the same thing. They do have a sheet with ingredients for all the breads right out on the counter though.

This place doesn't have as many vegan options as I would like to see, but the things I have tried are really really good. I had a pumpkin muffin, which is the same recipe as the pumpkin bread, and it's fabulous. Pretty cheap, too (maybe $1.60?). The Chocolate Babka and Pecan Rolls are fabulous. Both excellent. They have samples of breads, too, and I tried the multi grain, which was also stellar. The girl who took my order overheard me ask another person about what was vegan, and she thought there was honey in something I ordered and double checked just to be sure - which I thought was good customer service.

*Visited again yesterday - the service was awesome. A different girl behind the counter knew what was vegan, and she even rushed to ring me up because I was trying not to miss my bus. Thumbs up on the french boule.

Decent vegan selection but I had to ask for a menu to find the ingredients in the various breads. Great selection and very fresh.

I totally dig the pumpkin bread, but really only stop here because it's fused to the side of a Jamba Juice shop.

Kudos to Dave and his staff for their wonderful bread and incredible customer service. Our little children thoroughly enjoyed their tour of Breadsmith in St. Paul and are now totally enamored with this quaint little bakery and its delicious treats. Stop in and encourage others to do so as well.
