Vegan-friendly diner in SE
Mostly vegetarian greasy spoon diner with a 1950's style booth and stool setup. One of the staple vegetarian restaurants in town.
They are nearly all veg, but they do serve beef hamburgers. However, they will replace the meat with a Boca burger upon request.

Some of the food is really good. Try the haystack sandwich, corn cakes, or the vegan nachos. Just avert your eyes from the kitchen on your way to use the toilet. Paradox isn't fancy and the service can be slow, but it's inexpensive and has some good comfort food on the menu.
My husband and I totally dug this place. We went for dinner and were thrilled to see that breakfast is served all day. I got vegan biscuits with almond gravy. The biscuits were better than the gravy, but I was just excited to get biscuits and gravy. (I'm from Oklahoma originally, and we used to have the most non-vegan biscuits and gravy you could ever imagine, so finding a vegan version is great.)
I loved the decor--a weird mix of old-school diner style and Chinese (hanging lamps and posters). All in all, very enjoyable. Oh, and the carrot cake was amazing.

One minor complaint: We went back for breakfast a couple of days after enjoying our dinner there. The waitress brought out a little pitcher of cow milk with our coffee, without asking us if we wanted it or if we would prefer soy or rice milk. Only after I told her I was vegan (while asking about the waffles--alas, they are not vegan) did I mention the milk. She confirmed that it was dairy. Now, this is not a major thing, but it was kind of irritating in a restaurant that has a large vegan customer base.
On the plus side, the corn pancakes I ordered were divine, as was the scrambled tofu.
Food was rather boring. Was expecting more from it.

I took my 3 little ones and my girl out to experiance PaRaDoX yesturday eve. I must admitt Im glad I was not in a bad mood or I probably would have threatened them with a lawsiut! This place isnt even really VEGAN!!!!! Thank God I knew to ask if there is HONEY used in their buns or their biskets, guess what? Well after the waiter was stumped (by the way he was the only employee around and the joint was packed) he told me he did not know and there is no ingrediants on the bun packages that they order in bulk so he went to ask the cook. After 5 miniutes he let me know that there is indeed HONEY IN THE BUNS!!!
What THe F**K, there is no indication on the menu that HONEY is in any prouduct that is labeled VEGAN, and they represent that their entrees are VEGAN.....
I could have eaten their VEGAN BURGER and never known that it had HONEY and WON A LAWSIUT against them for false advertisment and improperly labeling food content. If you work at a so called VEGAN resturant you had better know the DAMN ingrediants of the food your preparing!!!
The place was completely understaffed and slow and they over charged me! Dont think of going there with any groups either they have no accomidations for any group larger then 4, we got lucky and were able to put the only 2 tables there together and have some space to eat..
If your VEGAN get in the habit of ASKING EXACTLY WHAT IS IN YOUR FOOD, Dont fool yourself by trusting Dumbass idiots that dont understand what bieng VEGAN entails, ESPECIALLY if the resturant serves normal food as well.
I would not be suprised to learn that they cook their real meat and so called Veggie patties on the same grill surface. They need to be shut down or re name themselves FAKE VEGAN FOOD THAT WILL MAKE YOUR STOMACH HURT ALL NIGHT! I'm calling it SHINANIGANS!!!
my next endevor will be VOO-DOO doughnuts, we will just see how VEGAN their selection really is!
So far the only trustworthy place Ive found is BLOSSOMING LOTUS cafe in the downtown area by china town...
