Vegetarian soul food
Restaurant, Caterer
This is the only 100% vegetarian restaurant in New Orleans. Located in the French Quarter, it features a variety of mockmeat options, with lacto-vegetarian items marked (some of the mockmeats contain whey). Some dishes include voodoo sticks, soul chicken dinner or a tofu rice bowl.
Also has a walk-up window for quick to-go orders.
Note that the restaurant portion closes at 10 p.m. on most nights, but the walk-up window and delivery service is available until 2 a.m. most nights. Call ahead to be sure.

Recently traveled to NOLA and found this place. Henceforth when I now think of the Big Easy, I'll think of Cafe Bamboo. Walked there on a typical Nawlins day, one minute crazy hot & humid, then next a downpour of rain. Found this on the seedy edge of the French Quarter, and from the outside, it looks like a drive bar that has seen much better days. I opened the door and while it retained its dive bar mystique, inside it felt funky, cool & homey all at once. DJ turntable spinning, eclectic art on the wall, diverse crowd, etc. Now to the important stuff - the food was incredibly delicious -- the Sol "Chik'n" Po'Boy dressed & served on French Bread served with sweet potato fries was totally yummy. The Collard Green Rolls were also tasty. Although I had mineral water to drink, it was comforting to have a full bar only steps away from table. The staff were helpful and added a down home feel. My only complaint was the funky cushions on the chairs and benchs have seen better days.

a vegetarian place which should please the nonvegetarian friends (we were one of each). Pokoras starter: lightly enough breaded to taste the veggies fully, accompanied by a superb dipping sauce--could make a whole lunch off these. We tried two rice bowls, Creole and Mafe, which were full platters, big meals. The peanut sauce on the Mafe is the best peanut sauce I have had anywhere. Attentive service. Small dining area with nice atmosphere. Good variety of drinks. Beautiful courtyard. Will definitely return to Bamboo.
