I have been trying to visit Salud for ages and had very high expectations but had a terrible first experience. I told the staff that I was vegan, confirmed that they use vegan mayonaise and soy cheese and decided on a vegetable tamale and a flor de calabaza quesadilla (squash blossom quesadilla).
Not only did my quesadilla come with dairy sour cream (I'm glad that I asked before eating it), but I opened up my tamale and it had chicken inside!!! Seriously? How does this happen when I'm so clear about my diet and when there's only 2 other tables in the restaurant on a slow afternoon? One of the girls (manager?) was exceedingly apologetic, said she doesn't know how it happened, and said she herself is a vegetarian and assured me it would never happen again.
This seems like a really good place to support and they are clearly making an effort to include vegetarian and vegan options on their menu, but my first experience really made me question how well-educated the kitchen staff is on the importance of getting orders right - particularly when dietary concerns are in question.
