Mmmm... I was delighted to discover The Secret Garden Cafe quietly nestled by the river just one block from the hustle and bustle of the Dells, a busy and popular Midwest tourist destination, yet I found the cafe to be a world apart. The outside deck invited us to sip on ice tea while we waited for our meal. We ordered an array of innovate and intriguing salads, sandwiches, a shrimp and garlic cream sauce rustic pizza and a bacon and egg croissant (it was a brunchish time of day) and we were not disappointed! I was so happy sitting out on the deck. It felt like everything fell together in one moment to allow us to be free and easy and enjoy each other. I laughed in recognition when I read through their comments book and saw someone had written that they fell in love all over again! I highly recommend that folks take time out from their busy waterparking holiday to relax and enjoy a fantastic meal at The Secret Garden Cafe.
This is certainly a diamond in the plastic, tacky rough. I had a wonderful meal here. They serve absolutely no meat or meat products. The staff was wonderfully friendly and very patient with my picky, picky friends. Everything is at least vegetarian and most of it can be made vegan. They have indoor/outdoor seating and take all forms of payment. The potato wedges they serve are the best I've ever had. If you have the misfortune to be in the dells you should eat here!
I have not been here since becoming vegan, but I do recall that the rosemary potato wedges are simply amazing! The atmosphere is also quite lovely, as previous reviewers have mentioned. This cafe is owned by the same people who own the Cheese Factory Restaurant, so go to the Secret Garden for lunch and hit up the Cheese Factory for dinner!
