Huge number of veg choices from the serve-yourself salad and hot food bar, as well as deli-style sandwich options that you can custom order. Great vegan bakery options as well.

As a vegan who has a major sweet tooth to see rows of marked vegan desserts was really great, not to mention they were excellent, they also have marked hot food. On top of that they have a great selection of vegan and vegetarian food such as vegan jerky and on the top floor they had a whole selection of supplements and other nutrition things. Amazing store, i would say one of the best in Connecticut.

I am totally impressed that this local vegetarian institution has now gone predominantly vegan in its food bar. There are always several vegan entrees. Also, all of the freshly-made sandwiches can be made vegan. They even have a small selection of homemade vegan bakery items, which are just too tempting. Meanwhile, the ample grocery store is the place to fulfill all of your vegan shopping needs in New Haven.

For the past three years I've come to Edge about three times a week. I have waited in line for over thirty minutes at times and (foolishly) said it was okay because the food was worth it. NEVER AGAIN! Not only did I wait way too long for my food but while I waited for my food I watched an employee on break EAT AT THE JUICE BAR(now I have sanitary concerns) while another employee (who was supposed to be making my food) chit chat while I was patiently waiting. I finally had enough and got a manager who got her manager who then took me back to the register to listen to the employee who NEGLECTED me (a long time customer) RAISE HER VOICE AND ARGUE about how there were customers ahead of me. I can not believe that it is part of the return policy to subject a CUSTOMER TO THAT LEVEL OF EMBARASSMENT. After waiting 50 minutes to just get my money back and then having to listen to an employee complain like it's the hardest thing in the world to make a sandwich in under 40 minutes, I am officially no longer a fan and will glady take my business elsewhere.

A health food store that carries meat only in the dog and cat food (same as the wonderful Willimantic Food Coop), Edge offers a good bakery and an even better hot buffet with everything clearly labeled either vegan or dairy. Seating is available upstairs, but it’s setup more for take-out. With Ahimsa closed permanently, you’ll do better to eat here than at any restaurant in New Haven.

If you wish to invest your bucks in the most delicious wholesome foods, local and organic farms, and ethical corporate values and pricing (nearest to the values of a food cooperative), Edge of the Woods has an outstanding selection of the best and most delicious, wholesome foods in New Haven! In the deli and bakery, the freshest vegan and vegetarian sandwiches and beverages are created daily and to order in the on site kitchen. Try the scrumptious Popeye smoothies with bananas & spinach; the eggplant, fresh parsley, and tahini dip and spread; and the tasty tahini chocolate chip cookies. Take home a fresh and sunny papaya (squeezed with fresh lime juice) to start the day. Great thanks, Edge of the Woods team, for your daily decisions to support local and organic farms and your outstanding teamwork that brings the highest quality and most delicious foods to the New Haven community!

Great selection of vegetarian and vegan essentials. A whole top level dedicated to vitamins and books. The baked goods are delicious but the food was bland.

This is a cool, good-sized natural foods store with a large and affordable variety of vegan packaged products, as well as bulk goods. Some of the prices I saw were unusually low ($0.99 per pound for brown rice, for example).

It also has an all-vegetarian hot bar (with dishes like seitan stir-fry, mac and cheese, etc.). The foods in the hot bar didn't look all that appealing, to tell you the truth, but I liked the variety.

They also offer a sandwich station that can make you things like tempeh reubens.

Lastly, they have a decent bakery with a fair number of vegan options, including cookies, cakes and cheesecakes. I got a piece of spelt zucchini bread and a chocolate chip oat cookie.

The cookie was much too oaty and dry. No salvaging that one, without upping the sugar content or reducing the oat quantity by 25%.

However, the spelt bread was excellent: moist, fluffy and delicious.

Edge of the Woods is a good 20+ minute walk from the Yale campus, but it's worth a visit.

Have been consumer for over 12yrs. Love the grocery store's organic section, reasonable. Love their RAW assortment. I enjoy eating at the restaurant, have introduced my daughter and her children love the food. I use the Pharmacy and purchase a great deal of my herbs from them (Organic or wild grown). When I can't find what I'm looking for the Store Staff is always willing to order it for me, whether it's herb, Brown Rice (25+ lbs), raw vinegar (I make my own meds). or fresh produce. I shop there weekly, what can I say I love the place...

first and foremost, vegan is a manufactured tittle. im a vegetarian in the true and correct sense of the word, a diet that excludes animals. ill make this short and brief. the pastry's and cakes are heavily processed with refined sugars. the hot food and salad bar is un-organic. the juice bar is un-organic. all the meals are centered around tofu? none of the ingredients are fresh (can, bottles and bags). some of the food labeled vegan is actually dairy (ex: black olives soaked in lactid acid). if your a true vegetarian and looking for some great food in the connecticut area i would suggest alchemy juice bar up in hartford.

Best place to go to in New Haven if you are vegan and have a sweet tooth! And if you are European, or like more European sweets, you'll be especially pleased! The selection of vegan sweets in their bakery section was truly impressive. All the following are vegan!!
- Bars: apricot, brownies, blondies, coconut carob, lemon raspberry bars, cranberry pecan bars, date nut bars, lemon blueberry bars, pecan pie bars, berry tofu, carob tofu, and pumpkin tofu
- Cookies: mocha walnut, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, tahini chocolate chip, maple chocolate chip, raspberry chocolate
- Pies: apple, cranberry pear, pecan, pumpkin
- Cakes: apple cinnamon, chocolate, carrot, maple raspberry, strawberry coconut
- Strudel (fruit-filled)
- vegan cheese danish!! (Wow, this was awesome!)
I tried a number of their sweets and they were very good!

I also tried the food in the deli area where you pay by the pound and it was mostly good, but certainly not impressive. It was certainly nice to see that most of the options were vegan, but I would probably prefer to buy something from the grocery store and cook it.

The grocery store seems really cool. Most of the food (except for pet food?) is vegetarian and it seems to have most of the food I would want! The only thing lacking is a great selection and quantity of vegan fruit, but otherwise it's great! They have pretty much everything you'd hope for.

I have been going to the Edge since they first started out in a whole in the wall on Edgewood Avenue. They have followed their vision and what a reward for us. When I walk in I always feel I'm at "home". I travel from Branford and It's worth the time and effort. I could go to smaller places in Guilford but why bother when I have found the BEST.

Edge of the Woods is a health food store that does NOT have chicken and other dead animals in the freezer. I can do the majority of my food shopping there. The deli/hot food bar offers a changing selection of both vegan and vegetarian food which is clearly labeled. There is also a salad bar and a juicing station, which will custom make organic juice. If none of that is to your liking, there are also hot and cold sandwiches that can be made for you. The bakery has an amazing selection of vegan baked goods.
