New Haven's Natural Food Store

Grocery/Bakery/Deli, General Store

Edge of the Woods is a natural food landmark in southern Connecticut. Offers a wide variety of fresh produce (including organics), beverages, pastas, sauces, snacks, canned goods, ethnic goods, etc. Has a good selection of soy products including locally made Tofu. Features a large selection of frozen foods, bulk beans/grains/seeds, vegan (and non) cheeses, and on the second level a huge selection of natural cosmetics and vitamins.

Near the front of the store is a bakery with lots of vegan (and non-vegan) cakes, breads and pastries. A small seating area is nearby (there is more seating on the second level) with a fresh juice bar. Next to the bakery is a salad bar and hot buffet ($5.50/lb) which usually has 5 or 6 options with most of them vegan. Fresh soups and additional items are available from a counter near the buffet.

Have been consumer for over 12yrs. Love the grocery store's organic section, reasonable. Love their RAW assortment. I enjoy eating at the restaurant, have introduced my daughter and her children love the food. I use the Pharmacy and purchase a great deal of my herbs from them (Organic or wild grown). When I can't find what I'm looking for the Store Staff is always willing to order it for me, whether it's herb, Brown Rice (25+ lbs), raw vinegar (I make my own meds). or fresh produce. I shop there weekly, what can I say I love the place...

first and foremost, vegan is a manufactured tittle. im a vegetarian in the true and correct sense of the word, a diet that excludes animals. ill make this short and brief. the pastry's and cakes are heavily processed with refined sugars. the hot food and salad bar is un-organic. the juice bar is un-organic. all the meals are centered around tofu? none of the ingredients are fresh (can, bottles and bags). some of the food labeled vegan is actually dairy (ex: black olives soaked in lactid acid). if your a true vegetarian and looking for some great food in the connecticut area i would suggest alchemy juice bar up in hartford.
