vegan-friendly Thai restaurant in Bushwick!

Long Do is a Thai restaurant on the busy shopping street of Knickerbocker in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The area is predominately Latino, and vegetarian food is tough to come by--vegan food beyond lettuce and tomatoes can be impossible. Not only does Long Do offer many vegetable and tofu dishes, but they also offer vegetarian duck, and will make ANY dish on the menu vegetarian. They even have a separate vegetarian section of the menu, which is highly unusual in this area.

Veg options include tom yum soup (lemongrass and mushroom), tom kha soup (coconut and galanga), red, green, masaman, and panang curries, and a number of fried rice and noodle dishes. Most entrees are around $7.95 and include a hearty portion.

Long Do offers lunch specials M-F from 12-4pm (mostly smaller versions of dinner options) for $5.50, including soup or salad.

I can't say this was the best Thai food ever, but given the current offerings in the non-hipster section of Bushwick, I am VERY impressed. This is the first restaurant I've seen make an effort to cater to vegetarians and the staff was very knowledgeable about menu items.

I had the fried tofu with peanut sauce as an appetizer, which was nice and crispy, but the sauce was more corn syrup than peanut sauce. I tried both the tom yum lemongrass soup (so-so) and the tom kha coconut soup (delicous!). For entrees, my friend and I split the veggie fish with string beans, and the massaman curry with veggie duck. The former was pretty good, but fairly salty, and the latter was outstanding--definitely one of the best curries I've had!
