Sprout Chicago - Mar 11

I think that this is the best vegetarian buffet on Devon. They have all of the staples, mutter paneer, fresh naan, soups, salads, and dessert. It's laid back, the owner is a gem, and I like to support businesses with an interest in ethics.

My husband and I used to order samosas from this place for about a year from 2006-2007. The food is decent, nothing extraordinary or fancy. Yes, it is overpriced. They have great samosas though. We generally called in advance or stopped in to order a dozen samosas... but never really ate in but once or twice.

This is the worst place in the whole of Devon Ave. I can safely say this place is the worst and outrageously overpriced. I bet they thrive on first time visitors and American customers who don't know much about Indian food. Some of the food in the buffet was clearly stale, even spoiled i believe. The rest were bland and no way up to restaurant standards. This is the first time I even saw a ridiculous sign on the buffet table saying "Don't waste food".

I don't plan on ever going here again. I am not that picky when it comes to eating out. A good meal to me is one that is better than something I could have made at home. I am not much of a chef, so the bar is pretty low, but Arya Bhavan did not get over it. The vegetable vindaloo was bland with not hint of heat. It tasted like someone opened an Indian Chef-Boyardee equivalent can of vegetable vindaloo, popped into the microwave and heated it up. The rice seamed like it had been soaking in water since Nixon was in office and I swear the garlic naan was regular naan with garlic salt on it. I could be wrong about that, but I've had better. The meal would have been decent if I hadn't been charged $4 for the plate of rice!

I guess it is nice that it is all-vegetarian, but I'd rather have a choice of two options at a restaurant that is good.

Okay, here's the deal...this place is decent. The food is pretty mediocre, but its all vegetarian...which is nice. For the food's quality, I think the menu is a bit overpriced...but, if you can check out the all-you-can-eat buffet its definately worth it. The people here are really nice and they cater to big groups-my brother's girlfriend had her graduation party here and they happily served our group of about 35 people.
