People's slogan "Food for People, Not for Profit" says it all. This antithesis of chain stores has been around since 1970. Open every day 9a - 9p. They have a beautiful selection of local organic produce and a well-stocked bulk section. Check out the environmental features of their store - there's a bottle wall, cob, and ecoroofs!
All of the store's products are entirely vegetarian except for the pet food.

This is a small co-op. But the staff are friendly and helpful, and they have good organic food in their bulk section. Quite a bit of living raw food. I love going there on Wednesdays for the farmer's market. It's a sweet little place.
I love people's because they believe in community. Also most of their buyers are vegans so most of the products are vegan and even the milk and cheese meet a vegan's standard of excellence. They are knowledgeable and cater to the raw foods community. They work directly with many local farms so that all the produce is local and fresh. They support many small local companies that are just starting out. Best of all you can become an member owner and help affect how the co-op is operated. Their staff even works as a collective. So by spending your dollars there you can support people not corporate greed. You can even become a Hands-On-Owner and earn discounts on food.
