I found the food here to be quite disappointing. I had the Beef Chow Fun and a Chicken Hot Pepper with Broccoli, both of which were bland, oily, and generally uninspired. The mockmeats were both gooey and had the texture of steak fat. While I appreciated the quantity and variety of vegetables they offered in each dish, the flat tastes and the low-quality mockmeats made this place a major disappointment. I also tried their mango vegan cheesecake, and it tasted all right, but was clearly not fresh.
Kingdom is one of my favorite resturants around in philly. i love that place since we first started going there, the people are amazing and the food is soooo good! <3
This place is amazing. You get a HUGE vegan dim sum spread for only $10 (2 person minimum) and you get at least 7 or 8 items. The sesame chicken are hit or miss--they can be the most amazing thing you've ever tasted but they're disgusting when they're dried out, which happens too frequently.
One of my favorites it the turnip cakes (which looks and tastes nothing like turnips) and I also really like the tofu skin, which looks like a little egg crepe. I can't tell the difference between all the steamed dumplings but they are all consistently good.
Be sure to ask for to-go boxes if you can't finish everything--which is likely--because they'll let you take your leftovers home.
My wife brought me here in 2000 when we were just dating and it is now the place we go when we want to celebrate or have a nice quiet meal. The food is absolutely amazing. The all you can eat dim sum is the way to go!
Great! Best mock Orange Beef I ever had. These guys go out of their way to make really unique vegan mock-meat Chinese dishes.
try the ham with skin knots and the scallion pancakes.
super tasty.
Well you figure you can't go wrong with a place called the Kingdom of Vegetarians. I have yet to be disappointed by their menu. Unlike other Chinese restaurants that have a vegetarian section on the menu, Kingdom's ENTIRE menu is 100 percent vegetarian. You name it, they have it. Mock chicken, beef, pork, shrimp. My favorites are Tai chi chicken, General Tso's chicken, and their Moo Shu vegetables. The servings are generous, hearty and unless you're just a glutton, or you're really hungry that day, I doubt that you'll actually finish what you start. What is also very accommodating is that if you're eating in a party of two or more, you can order dinner specials for a flat price that covers several menu selections. My only criticism is that the place reaks of annoying little fruit flies which is a major sanitary issue. A vegetarian restaurant should be a pleasant dining experience, and when you're swatting flies that hover over your plate, it subtracts from the pleasure of having such a good meal. I really love, love, love the food but I recommend ordering it to go.
Ming (the owner) makes Kingdom a really hospitable place to be. Try the Imitation Jumbo Shrimp with Walnuts or the Suffed Tofu in a Hot Pot. General Tso's Chicken is also a great choice.
I've been living in Philly for about 5 years now, and Kingdom is the one all-vegetarian place I keep coming back to. Their mock chicken is this amazing battered seitan deep-fried to a golden crisp... unlike anything I've had anywhere else! Service is fast and friendly. I highly recommend the Moo Shu Pork, General Tso's Chicken, Seseme Chicken, and the heavenly Phoenix Chicken (mock chicken stuffed with mock ham, served with lemon and plum sauces... yum!) Great lunch specials everyday and quality dim sum make this place a sure bet.
