i have been here twice. the first time was a year ago and i got the sauerkraut and the sunflower cheeze; both were really good, although it was pretty expensive (maybe $10 total for about 1/2 lb of each). today i went in and was pleasantly surprised that the pizzas were on sale for $3 a slice, normally $6 a slice. well, i dont even think what i got was worth that...it was pretty dry and extremely bland, and had barely any toppings. ive had much better raw pizza (ecopolitan in mpls). but the salad bar at papa g's is pretty great, and the raw dressing of the day--strawberry vinegarette--was delicious. we also got the housemade strawberry kefir, which tasted yummy and had a light carbonation. overall, i like papa g's and the food available, but it does tend to be a bit spendy and i wouldnt recommend the pizza.
I went into Papa G's earlier today, (on SE Division St) I Ordered one of the new Tempe Burgers and after one bite I was blown away. It was so delicious that I had to remind myself it was a vegan burger! (and I am NO vegan!) After a couple weeks on vacation in my small hometown in Upstate NY, where the pickings are slim for good healthy food on the go.
I walked in and ordered from the polite employee and watched her make my burger . Within only a minute or two she handed me the sandwich with a side of chips. I also tried the Nachos. I was instantly hooked after the first bite of each. I'm looking forward to my next meal there. Which will most likely be tomorrow!
It's like cafeteria food, only it's organic and all-vegan, and pricy. Serious points for the organics, serious points for the vegan, but my tastebuds and my wallet, they doth protest too much. I haven't been since I was way more poor, but in this town, there is really just no reason for me to come back again. The people who work here seem to be total sweethearts, though.
They do have a great salad bar (I am, unfortunately, not really a salad girl), and I did really like the cashew-yogurt I tried from a friend's plate (and I can only imagine that their other similar products might be as successful), but I tend to lobby hard for other places when eating with friends.
Fantastic place that was formerly attached to the Daily Grind on Hawthorne.
Great people, lots of options, from healthy salads and coconut kefir (!), to mac'n'cheese and bbq tofu burgers.
I recommend it all.
Organic salad bar featuring homemade cashew yogurt, salad dressings, and even seaweed! All organic buffet bar(they serve) vegan comfort food style. Affordable soups and grab and go. Compostable to-go containers and tableware. $8.75 a pound 4 salad bar and hot bar with some cheaper plate and bowl options/specials. Great freindly service and very clean/new. They also sell their own milks and vegan keifer!! It's a new spot and I am looking forward to the changes that occur when they are truly open (4-22 grand opening)

One of my favorite Portland restaurants. Super casual and friendly, not to mention delicious and organic. I'm still trying to make nachos that are as good as the ones they make!
