A creative melting pot in the heart of Southampton, offering delicious vegetarian food with a wide range of vegan options.
Mind the step, (mind your head), pull up a chair, and be welcomed to The Art House, a cultural melting pot for arts in Southampton. Located in Bedford Place on three floors of a grade II listed building. We are a welcoming, vibrant and charmingly quirky venue, run for love and not for profit.
The cafe, gallery and vintage clothing shop is open from 10.30am - 6pm Tuesday-Saturday, with 100% organic, fair-trade, and carbon footprint friendly Café Miya (made from actual coffee beans that you can see - if you ask us nicely), a wide range of teas, juices and home-baked snacks (including vegan options) and 'Nina's Nutty Balls' - sublime, handmade orbs of wholesome goodness!

The Art House has a busy programme of events, workshops, groups, entertainments and courses from Life Drawing, to creative writing, storytelling, to cake baking and making bug houses out of plant pots!
We have a lovely workshop/studio space available for hire, suitable for groups of about 6 - 10 depending on the activity. We also have a smaller room which can be used for meetings of up to 5 people, or for therapies and private music lessons. The cafe is available for use in the evenings by outside groups. We work in Partnership with 'Arty's Ltd', a local business run to give artists the chance to display and sell their work in The Art House and at other venues. Please contact Paul Mallec on 07828 932690 or pop into The Art House between 10.30 and 5pm daily for a chat.
We offer internet access in the cafe, including WiFi, priced at just £1 per half hour.
The Art House is run for the purpose of providing a positive, safe and friendly space to meet in our city. We endeavour to operate in an ethical and environmentally responsible way, using organic and fair trade ingredients wherever possible, recycling and composting most of our waste and keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum.
From Southampton Central train station (about 8 minutes)
- Leave the Station on the North side
- Cross Blechyden Terrace and head North up Wyndham Place
- Cross Commercial Road at the traffic lights
- Turn right onto Commercial Road
- Turn left into Morris Road
- Follow Morris Road uphill and as in bends to the right, past the Polygon and Handel Road on your right
- Turn Left into Devonshire Road
- Turn Right into Henstead Road
- The Art House is the big white building on the corner!

Good for a light, informal meal. Run by friendly, helpful people. All the food is freshly prepared. The portions are not hearty. Unlicensed.
