Home-Style Lebanese & Middle Eastern Food
This family-owned restaurant is a haven for vegans and vegetarians who want filling options for a good price. It opened in 2005 just off of Thayer St., near Brown University. The lower level of the restaurant is more casual, while the upper level is a Lebanese lounge offering table service, a variety of drinks, and some additions to the menu.
They have a section of the menu devoted to vegetarian wraps, including falafel, hummus (chickpeas), baba ghanouj (roasted eggplant), tabouli (Lebanese salad), moujadera (lentils w/ rice and onions), yogurt-cucumber, a Greek wrap, grilled spinach (my personal favorite), a grilled mixed-vegetable wrap, and stuffed grape leaves. There is also a very tasty lentil soup and french fries.
Any of their salads can be customized for vegetarians or vegans. They offer a fattoush salad (vegetables tossed in spices, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil and pita chips) a tabouli salad (parsley, tomatoes, onions, and bulgar wheat), and a garden salad -- which are already vegan -- and a greek salad. If you can't decide what to try, there is a platter called the "Lebanese Veggie Quattro" that includes hummus, baba ghanouj, moujadera, and a choice of tabouli or fattoush salad (basic salad with vegan house dressing and fried pita chips).
Finally, their desserts and smoothies are excellent -- baklava and nimoura (a type of cookie), and Lebanese ice cream for non-vegans. It's definitely worth a try if you are in the area!
