Huge Salad Bar

The Biggest Salad Bar in town, with multiple locations, Sweet Tomatoes is sure to satisfy the hungriest of appetites. With a extensive array of fresh vegetables, fruits, soups, pizzas, a baked and sweet potato bar, muffins, freshly-made pastas, and desserts, there's ample choices for just about any diner.

Sweet Tomatoes is especially noteworthy to veg lovers for its salad vegetables; including such things mixed greens (of course there's iceberg lettuce too), shredded jicama, zucchini, banana squash, red bell peppers (and green), sliced Roma tomatoes (as well as grape tomatoes), etc. There's also plenty of fresh fruits available: melons, pineapple, red grapes. And at least one vegan soup at all times.

Non-veggies will also enjoy the meat-based soups, pizzas, pasta dishes, and low-fat yogurt desserts.

If anyone has ever left here hungry, they simply ran out of time.

This restaurant chain has been criticized for its lack of variety for Vegetarians (in comparison to ultra-fancy $7/lb salad bars at Wild Oats or Whole Foods), but if you're a big eater and/or don't want to pay exorbitant $$$$ for more than 1/lb of food, Sweet Tomatoes is a good place to start. There's more than just fresh veggies here.

My family and I used to go to Sweet Tomatoes all the time -- I gave it up after my first visit as a vegan, though. It's fine if you're all right with eating animal by-products, but all of the pasta contains eggs, things like garlic bread have cheese on top, etc. If you're vegan, all you're going to get are fruits and vegetables and maybe a soup. I can buy organic fruits and vegetables at the grocery store for less, and I'd probably have a cleaner, more pleasant dining experience at home than I would at Sweet Tomatoes.

Sweet Tomatoes offers only raw veggies and unhealthy salads with too much mayo, etc. The Tempe location is poorly managed, long lines, and unclean tables. Besides the raw veggies, there is not much for vegetarians. I would recommend the salad bars at Whole Foods and Wild Oats or even AJ's instead for far better food.

I really tried by going more than once. The final time when I asked the cook for something without butter or cheese, he showed me where the butter was kept. The manager came over and asked what the problem was, he got very defensive when I told him his staff was not vegan aware. He said I should have asked for their choices without butter or cheese, I told him when I did, I was shown where the butter was kept. He assured me his staff was the best available. I assured him I would never darken his door again.
