Vegan Shojin Ryori Restaurant
Izusen is on the Daitoku-ji Temple grounds. As expected on Buddist territory, only strict vegetarian meals are served. This famous shojin-ryori establishment specializes in teppatsu-ryori, a rather elaborate variation of Zen vegetarian cuisine.
Izusen offers a number of set meals (increasingly fancy) ranging from 3150 to 5250 yen, but they also offer a number of side dishes, such as stuffed eggplant, beancurd, and steamy pot hotpotches, which are about 550 yen each.
Izusen has several other branches, such as right in front of the Daitoku-ji temple, and one near the Kyoto station above the McDonalds, but these locations use fish stock and seafood.
Take the 12, 204, 205 or 206 city bus and get off at Daitokuji Mae stop.
