Vegan-friendly Ethiopian food!
Axum is an Ethiopian restaurant in the lower Haight area that features many vegan options, including: pureed chickpeas, lentils, mushrooms, potatoes, and spinach. You can either order one vegetarian option or you can get the combo platter which allows you to chose any 3 veg options. All entrees come with a side salad with Ethiopian dressing.
The meals come with injera (traditional Ethiopian bread), which is used to scoop up the food instead of using forks. They charge $1.25 for extra injera.
The food comes fast, but the waiter/waitress can be brusque when the restaurant gets busy.

Axum has some of the best Ethiopian food that I've ever had. The food is very flavorful and well seasoned. I like the taste of their food a little better than that of Wazima, but Axum is a lot more expensive, especially if you eat a lot. Not only is one combo platter cheaper at Wazima, but they also give you free refills.
