Veg friendly sushi in Old Town

Kamehachi is Chicago's first sushi bar and Japanese restaurant. It serves sushi that approaches the higher end of the scale, but is still in the affordable range. A number of veg entrees are available, some of the sushi is also veg-friendly. Be sure to ask if food has bonito flakes (miso soup and age dashi tofu in particular) - they're generally able to leave it out.

Kamehachi is a great place to go with a large group for a celebration. If you call ahead of time you can request a private room, which have shoji screen doors. There are a number of menu items that can easily be made vegan, including the soba dishes, vegetable sushi, edamame, and tofu appetizers. There is also a large selection of sake, including some types that I haven't seen anywhere else.

There are a couple of vegan things on the menu, and they are all pretty good. You have to ask to make sure some of the broths don't have bonito flakes, otherwise you might get a fishy surprise. The service is good, but on a busy night, this location gets VERY noisy (the Streeterville one tends to be quieter).
