All-vegetarian natural foods cooperative market, open to public
The 4th Street Food Co-op is a small all-vegetarian natural foods food cooperative store, open to the public.
The 4th Street Food Co-op offers organic produce, locally grown as much as feasible, large selection of bulk goods such as flours, oats, dry fruits, many varieties of rice, dry beans, dry pasta, tofu, health and beauty supplies, and more. You will additionally find other natural food products like soy milk, vegan ice cream, and other packaged foods.
The co-op has managed to replace almost all of the "corporate organic" non-produce produced by companies owned by multinationals not meeting ethical standards.
Anyone can shop at the co-op, but working members receive discounts between 15 and 25% depending on the number of hours they work. Membership is $10 for the first year and $25/year after that.
The 4th Street Food Coop is located in the East Village, on 4th Street between Bowery and 2nd Avenue.
The 6, R, W, F, and V trains all stop within walking distance.

This is the SPOT!!!!! They're all vegetarian and nearly all vegan, organic, fair trade and small-business. Of course you'll find your token crazy co-op member there, but everyone is really nice and it's certainly the most ethically driven business to support.
It's mostly bulk and fresh stuff but they do have packaged sandwiches, ice cream bars, and other snacks that are ready to eat.
JOIN!!!!

I've gotta say, the 4th street food co-op is the bomb.
