I initially thought that nothing could be made vegan here, and this belief was due to an employee at the location on Ina and Oracle telling me that nothing could be made vegan except for the white rice. Later, I researched online and found that there are items labeled vegetarian by a little green leaf. Vegetarianism excludes fish products, so I imagine this means that there is no fish sauce included in those dishes. This is again contrary to what I was initially told by an employee, but I can't imagine that corporate leaders of Pei Wei would not understand that vegetarians don't eat fish.

I have gone back to Pei Wei and have had the Spicy Korean dish with vegetables and tofu. The dish was excellent, though the last time I ordered it it tasted somewhat funky, like something was burnt or that the flavor of eggs transfered from something else they cooked before my dish. As with many restaurants, the cooks don't always clean their cooking apparatus, especially not when they are busy. I guess this is an issue I've come to accept, as I'm a student and need to often eat out as I can't always go home to cook.

I just found this website that lists what is vegan:

i love going here, its a fast food type of place with fast carry out as well. i can feed my family of 5 for about 26, cant do that at any other vegan friendly place in town! you can also sub the wide rice noodles for anything that comes with rice, and we always get an extra side of steamed veggies(never enough in the dish) for about $2. i ask for my veggies extra soft, i too think they need to be steamed longer. veganeatingout website says that the plates marked with the veggie symbol are vegan, except the teriyaki because it has honey.

Pei Wei offers great fast food for vegans. There are about 5 or so items on the menu for us. Half of the time the vegetables are undercooked but for fast food, I can't complain. It's inexpensive and clean.

I've always thought of Pei Wei as a decent restaurant. They used condensed tofu, which I always find very enjoyable. It's a good option, but don't expect to be blown away.

I have to say that I've never had anything even approaching good at Pei Wei with the exception of their plain, brown rice and the edamame appetizer. Their tofu tastes like overcooked cheese and they aren't generous with the vegetables. I haven't eaten there in years and I hope my review doesn't dissuade you from trying it out yourself, but there are many better quick Chinese places at which to dine.
