Korean Traditional Restaurant for Vegetarian

Although not entirely the strict Buddhist vegan restaurant, this restaurant serves 100% vegan dishes. Like many vegetarian restaurants, it is located in Insa-dong area. It is a buffet style and you can eat as much as you can. It is 12,000 won per person.

We visited the restaurant twice for lunch while in Seoul in Aug 2010. It is an all you can eat buffet, with friendly staff (including a woman who I think was the owner who spoke some English). The food is very healthy - does not seem like a lot of oil, and they have lots of different vegetable items, and nothing fried - also they have two types of whole grain - one probably brown rice, and the other maybe barley. Overall, very good, and reasonably priced at WON12,000 per person.

I know several vegan places back here in Canada and abroad, but this has been a wonderful experience. The food is surprising, the caring service, the tastes of prepared vegetables and pickles, all has been a wonderful experience. Their rice tastes like no other. No need to be a vegetarian to enjoy this, as my non-vegetarian friend was delighted too. The menu in English gives some information about the dishes. I truely recommend this place to everyone.

Directions

Head over to Insadong using Jonggak (line 5) or Angguk (line 3) stops and go to the main Insa-dong shop area (Insa-dong Street) (Geumgang Jehwa). Locate Sudo Pharmacy (about mid-way along the street) and then turn to the street next to it. Within 100m, you should locate it on your left before a parking lot of a big restaurant/tea house. It is downstair of a building and you should be able t see the menu outside the building main entrance. Next to the building entrance is some sort of pottery/ceramic/knick knack shop.
