Take-out Caribbean food
Health Garden is a self-described health food store across from the Kodak head office building.
Up front the food is all vegetarian except for a few fish dishes. It's kept in slow cookers and heating pans, and served in styrofoam take-out containers.
You have your choice of a small plate - 1 side and 1 main dish - for $5 or a large plate - 2 sides and 2 main dishes - for $8. Both are served with Jamaican peas and rice.
The dishes change every day, but generally include a soy protein dish such as soy pepper steak, GardenBurger brand riblets, and a few tofu dishes such as jerk tofu or citrus tofu.
The side dishes generally include collard greens, candied yams, and other Caribbean/soul food dishes.
Health Garden also serves a few other side orders a day, including fried plantains and sometimes ackee dish.
You an also order shakes and smoothies, and buy herbs and teas in bulk.
In back is a cafe with Southern American food which is mostly non-vegan and non-vegetarian.
Health Garden is on State Street right across from the Kodak head office building, north of Main Street. It's a very small corner building - look for a red, yellow, and green sign.

Health Garden gets a thumbs-up for serving quick, cheap food that's pretty unique. I've liked all the soy protein and tofu dishes I've tried there, although they could use more tofu and less veggies, I think. The candied yams are lovely, they have a nice hint of vanilla.
According to the owner, all the veggies are vegan.
They lose a few points for recently expanding to include much more non-vegan stuff in back.
