Amazing vegan dining experience in Williamsburg

4coursevegan is an innovative approach to healthy eating and socializing.

4 Course Vegan is a concept born out of pure passion for food and people. Throughout time, the dinner table remains a place to gather, to eat, to enjoy, to relax, to converse, and to share ideas. The table is the communal meeting spot. In January 2003, 4 Course Vegan, based in Williamsburg, opened its doors in hopes to bridge the communities through this transformative dining experience. Chef Matteo serves compassionate, worldly fare with emphasis on the freshest organic ingredients, without the use of any animal products. 100% Vegan.

4 course vegan is the best hidden jewel in New York City. Every Saturday, Chef Matteo cooks a 4 course vegan meal that makes you say WOW after every bite and leaves everyone, vegans and non-vegans alike with the same thought: if I could only eat like that every day!

My wife and I discovered this place through a coworker of mine about a year and a half ago and have been hooked ever since, trying to be there every Saturday night we can.

The menu changes every week and is based on local, seasonal ingredients.
The web site is http://www.4coursevegan.com and is updated weekly with the menu.
Last night’s menu included:

Jicma and Cashew ‘cheeze’ ravioli with cilantro pesto sauce
Herbed ‘cheeze’ and flax seed cracker
*****
Thai lentil soup with lemon grass and avocado relish
*****
Salad of Frisee and Sorrel with
Sour Rye Croutons and Horseradish Dressing
*****
Rosemary Mushroom Pave with
Buttercup 'Mash' and Adzuki Miso Gravy
*****
Cinnamon Apple Torte with
Maple Caramel, Lemon Sour Cream, and Spiced Walnuts

The Ravioli resembles its Italian cousin just in concept. The cashew cheese was sandwiched between 2 thin slices of Jicama. It was light and crunchy with amazing creamy texture inside.

The Soup was very unique. Now we want to try and add lemon grass to our lentil soups. The avocado relish was a perfect companion.

We did differ in our love of the next 2 courses. The horseradish dressing was to strong for my taste but my wife, the wasabi lover, enjoyed every bite

The Mushroom Pave was a bit salty but to my taste it complemented the lightly sweet buttercup mash perfectly.

Everyone agreed on the desert. It was a perfect torte. Smelling of cinnamon and every bite is a mouthful of sweet and sour. Beautifully presented, we all wished there could be seconds.

Beyond the extraordinary food, the dinner is a great way to meet like-minded people. Served by Matteo himself to a communal table, the conversation and company is always great.
