Healthy Macrobiotic Cuisine
Serving organic, macrobiotic fare with Asian accents in a warm, soothing atmosphere for the past 20 years, with pretty lighting, light pastel walls and bunches of dried flowers. Starters include tahini noodles, tempeh with ginger vegetable sauce, tofu scrambled with scallions and carrots, and vegetable tempura. There are quite a few larger seafood and vegetarian courses, obento boxes and sushi, and sides of organic whole grain breads, steamed greens, homemade pickles, and marinated burdock root. Nutritious breakfast specials are served from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and even the drinks are healthy, with fresh-squeezed juices, organic coffee and wines. Souen is a place that specializes in an American cuisine known for their vegetarian meals. Expect the average entrée to cost roughly $12 to $20, and you'll be fine if dressed casual.

Souen is one of my favorite vegetarian restaurants in NYC. The food is well-prepared, healthy macrobiotic cuisine. Some of the dishes are mildly flavored, but you can taste that this is good food, and that is has been prepared with care. The environment is peaceful and calming, with lots of plants inside. I recommend the faux chicken parmesean... but most everything I have had there is satisfying, especially if you want to leave feeling healthy. :)
